Emilio Vedova’s artistic research and his relationship with the city of Berlin are at the heart of the exhibition Emilio Vedova. More than movement for its own sake, currently on view at the Emil Schumacher Museum in Hagen, Germany.
The exhibition explores a significant period in the artist’s career, beginning with his stay in Berlin in 1963, a city marked by the divisions of the Cold War and profound political and cultural transformations.
It was in this context that the Plurimi took shape: works composed of movable painted panels through which Vedova transcended the traditional boundaries of the pictorial surface, opening painting up to space.
The exhibition highlights the experimental nature of his artistic research, in which artistic expression and civic consciousness remain closely intertwined.
