Venice Art House is the new laboratory and exhibition place in Venice for contemporary art, located in Cannaregio between Strada Nuova and the famous Fondamenta della Misericordia, one of the places where young Venitians meet. The exhibition area was once a storehouse, before being lately restored, and now is ready to hold performances, projections and laboratories in addition to its common use as an exhibition art space.

Special Collaboration with GAP(global art project)
MIXED-MEDIA: fiber, fabric, paper, thread, acrylics with sewing machine
Sponsored by Bernina Italia
https://www.facebook.com/bernina.italia/
I appreciate the cooperation of Silvia Del Vecchia and Susanne Heigenhauser, of Bernina Italia and Andrea Chinellato of Palazzo Ca' Zanardi, Venice, Italy, the site of GAP IV Venice, the first and fourth base of GAP's international mixed-media collaborative residencies
WORKSHOP : mixed media and sewing machine (BERNINA 530/550 QE)
August 6, 7
I conducted two workshops with three mixed media artists (painter Robert Reed, photographer Jaya Su Su, print maker Lo Moulis). Actually, this would be their first experience working with a sewing machine in an art-making context. Due to the properties of the sewing machine ( free motion allowing one to "draw" onto materials; easy operation and great power) all participants quickly picked up how to best operate and control them and made mixed-media works of paper and fiber quilts.
My preference is the free motion capability of the Bernina machines using the #29 foot pedal. Everyone expressed excitement and seemed to be having a lot of fun experimenting and creating new works and works in progress.
Because I was working with practicing professional artists, their output was tremendous and in some cases very surprising, applying their general aesthetic onto a new medium.
Ours was a fantastic shared experience.

COLLABORATION WORKS : mixed media and sewing machine
I like to apply thread onto paper using the sewing machine because it allows flexibility and freer creative options. I can quickly and easily sew onto various weights and textures of paper and mixed-media materials.
I remember the first time GAP founder Carl Heyward Redux asked me to make stitches on a paper work with the sewing machine at a GAP workshop in Treviso Italy in 2014. Yes, we created a nice collaborative piece; paint, collage and stitches opened a new world.
Why do I feel such freedom found only in fiber and fabrics ? I think because I am released from the traditional conventions of thread and fabric. Maybe collaboration with other artists is also part of this equation of freedom and experimentation. This was and remains an extraordinary experience given me by GAP, thw process of collaboration and the Bernina Corporation, Arigato.
And Thank you for translation Carl Heyward.

AKIKO SUZUKI / japan:
is an award winning fiber artist whose practice has pioneered the forward movement of the Contemporary Art Quilt in Japan and throughout the world via exhibition and workshops. Surprisingly, the introduction of the Western traditional

Hand stitching or sewing machine techniques are available but most important is your attitude of openess and exploration; what you feel and the intention you bring to the workshop. Participants are encouraged to bring their own materials
and hand stitching tools, but are offered my own original stamped and dyed materials as well."

NEW DRAWING & PAINTING WORKSHOP :GREGORY J. ROSE / usa
"My work is rooted in how narrative intersects with collective memory. The use of fragments is attuned to the notion of scar tissue,
with the combination of visual language co-opted from the urban landscape, and the history of abstraction in drawing and painting.
Intimacy, in the moment of violence and intense energy, seems to be what really is the main vein running through my work."
Rose is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000, and received his
Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Minnesota in 2004 with a concentration in Drawing and Painting.
Gregory has been teaching in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system since 2003 and is Fine Arts Faculty at
Minneapolis Community and Technical College.

MOVING BEYOND THE CANVAS : THE BODY IN MOTION
( an ORGANIC TRAINING WORKSHOP)
French dancer, choreographer and visual artist MACHA MELANIE is the newest addition to the workshop roster
of GLOBAL ART PROJECT and joins us after extensive experience in collaborative dance and directed
movement exercises whose aim is total involvement of the body, the senses and the creative impulses
culminating in a liberating experience designed to inform the practice of any artist or anyone interested
in the process of becoming a more "in-touch" creative being. If you can move you can take this workshop.
All levels of experience or interest in the arts are encouraged to participate.
MACHA MELANIE:
"This workshop is structured around a research project: that of a state being. It requires no technical
expertise. Students follow the path of their own dance. It begins with stretching (inspired from yoga),
and extends through directed improvisations, where we explore the infinite treasures of dancing
(exterior space, inner space, the game of bones which slide inside the flesh, the sensitivity of the skin ...
the exchange between the body and gravity, relative to the ground, air, music ...). Listening to our
"dancing beast", these workshops have always improved the merits of movement, trust and harmony
within the group, and the famous “letting go” that allows you to be fully available to innovate! Once
fluidity is found in the body through improvisations, it can be expressed in other ways (automatic
drawing etc.)"
