Twilight Resonances
Ice is illuminated, revealing its transparency and inner structure. As each drop falls, ripples spread across the water, the light begins to shimmer, and sound emerges. What begins as a visual experience continues as an electro-acoustic one. Rather than following the drop itself, the installation traces the transformation it initiates—an interplay of light, water, time, and sound.
Peggy Sylopp is a Berlin-based artist who has been working with multisensory installations made of ice, light, and sound since 2009, using the process of melting as a sensory way of bringing climate change into immediate perception. In her ongoing Twilight series, she combines acoustic research, generative sound synthesis, and collaborative artistic-technical experiments into installations that make transience and ecological change directly experienceable.
For this installation, she collaborates again with sound artist Jürgen Michaelis, who translates the light-triggered water movements through his self developed analog FM synthesiser with sounds based on solfeggio frequencies.
Jürgen Michaelis is a Berlin-based sound artist who has a long lasting experience in designing electronic musical instruments for his self-made brand Jomox.
For many years Jürgen has been working on multi sensory concepts to explore the inner structure of water, the matrix of life. For this exhibition, wave movements and drops are scanned by a sensor array triggering and modulating an FM synthesiser, which extends the water into a realm of electronic music and sound. Every drop of the melting ice may issue an acoustic warning which represents that climate change is real and not fake.
Peggy and Jürgen have collaborated on various performances and installation for almost 25 years and continue to do so. Friday Aug 28th in the early evening, we welcome you to experience and reflect.
