Russian missiles recently targeted Kyiv’s Pechersk Lavra, a thousand-year-old monastery, UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of Ukraine’s most important spiritual and cultural landmarks.

Other cultural institutions were also struck, including museums, universities, performance spaces, and film studios.

As the assault on Ukrainian identity continues, Ukrainian Canadian artists are helping protect, preserve, and share our endangered culture.

While in Winnipeg this past weekend for the TSF Annual General Meeting and spring grant allocation, the Board of Directors and management took the opportunity to celebrate an invaluable member of the TSF team – Executive Director Bohdana Bashuk. Bohdana has decided the time has come to begin another chapter of her life – the well-deserved relaxed chapter capping decades of community service. She’ll be with us until the end of the summer so we’re not saying good-bye just yet. But we thought you’d like to know!

Congratulations to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation on 30 years of extraordinary service, leadership, and impact.

On May 29, CUF marked this milestone with its sold-out *Thirty Years Strong* Gala at Toronto’s historic Arcadian Court, bringing the community together to celebrate three decades of strengthening connections between Canada and Ukraine.

Since 1995, CUF has mobilized Canadians from coast to coast to coast in support of Ukraine, delivering vital humanitarian assistance and standing alongside communities through moments of profound need. The evening was a powerful reflection of that legacy, featuring an intimate conversation between acclaimed Canadian author Margaret Atwood and Canada’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Natalka Cmoc, exploring democracy, power, and resilience.

We extend our warmest congratulations to the CUF team, its volunteers, donors, partners, and supporters. May this milestone honour all that has been accomplished and strengthen the important work still ahead.

Through sweeping photographs of mines, quarries, industrial landscapes, and altered environments, Ukrainian Canadian artist Edward Burtynsky reveals the profound relationship between human progress and the natural world.

This summer, audiences can experience his solo exhibition:

📍 Vancouver: Burtynsky: Human/Nature at Paul Kyle Gallery, a major survey spanning the early 1990s to the present. On view through August 2026.

Congratulations to the Calgary Ukrainian Festival team on a successful weekend celebrating Ukrainian culture, community, and connection.

Through vibrant performances, traditional food, local vendors, and opportunities to gather together, the festival created a welcoming space for people of all generations to experience and celebrate Ukrainian heritage.

We’re especially grateful to our Shevchenko Foundation Ambassadors, Khrystyna Zagirska and Anna-Mariya Zagirska, who joined the festivities, connected with attendees, and captured community reflections on what makes Ukrainian festivals so meaningful.
