This Asian Heritage Month visit “The Paper Trail to the 1923 Chinese Exclusion Act”. We’re honoured to be hosting this powerful exhibition, which is a special adaptation of the award-winning landmark exhibition that debuted at the Chinese Canadian Museum ().

Through artifacts, photographs, and documents, take an unflinching look at Canada’s exclusion years when, for the first and only time in Canadian history, the country banned the entry of a single community and issued immigration cards to Chinese who were born here. The exhibition focuses on the human impact and personal cost this law inflicted on Chinese people in Canada. The displays reveal haunting stories of loss, despair and fear, as well as powerful examples of courage and perseverance.

“The Paper Trail” exhibition is on display in the Manitoba Museum’s Discovery Room and Urban Corridor.

This exhibition made possible with the support of Canadian Heritage.

Be prepared for things to heat up a little at the Museum over the coming days! Unfortunately our air conditioner is down, and with the predicted temperatures for the next few days we anticipate indoor temperatures may be warmer than usual while the repairs are carried out. Temporary measures are in place, however, we recommend dressing comfortably for warmer conditions and bringing a resealable water bottle to stay hydrated. Refilling stations are available on-site, and water is permitted inside the Museum Galleries.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. Thank you for your continued support, and we hope you enjoy your visit!

Watch out, it’s a mummy!! Well, almost.

Pictured here are some samples of 75-million-year-old dinosaur skin impressions collected by the Manitoba Museum from southern Alberta. These samples belong to the group of duck-billed dinosaurs known as hadrosaurs, and they show expansive small polygonal basement scales (small multi-sided scales).

Unlike the classic mummies from ancient Egypt, many fossilized hadrosaurs from the late Cretaceous exhibit only patches of preserved skin (or just skin impressions), due to the decay of soft tissue. Very rarely, we can find entirely “mummified” dinosaurs, and we are just starting to “unwrap” the secrets they keep!

Tomorrow on Dome@Home, we'll look at the planetary dance occurring in the evening sky, as Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, and the Moon play peek-a-boo along the western horizon after sunset. We'll also share the first part of our look at this generation’s moon landers currently in development for next year’s Artemis III flights.

Plus, we'll take a look back at the constellations and all the cool space stuff from the past month.

Tune in live on Thursday, May 28, at 7 pm, here on Facebook or at Youtube.com/ManitobaMuseum

Dome@Home is a FREE virtual show inviting Manitobans to explore the universe with Manitoba Museum Planetarium Astronomer Scott Young. Get to know the stars with us on the last Thursday of every month at 7 pm Central.

What can a piece of paper reveal about a life? This month, in honour of Asian Heritage Month, we invite you to discover how fragile documents—certificates, photos, and government records—reveal powerful stories of tragedy, loss, survival, adaptation, and triumph.
