Gallery 1C03 is the campus art gallery of The University of Winnipeg.

We present art exhibitions and other public programming and preserve the University's art collection. We show work that deals with questions concerning history, politics, technology, gender, sexuality, and race, among many other issues, to support the educational mandate of the University. Gallery 1C03 typically highlights work by professional Indigenous, Manitoba and Canadian artists; however, wh

en funds permit we have also exhibited work by international artists. We support our exhibitions with a range of free events including talks, tours, panel discussions, and performances.

Lux et Veritas Floreant / Let Light and Truth Flourish
September 10 to November 13, 2026

🥳 Gallery 1C03 at The University of Winnipeg celebrates its 40th anniversary with an exhibition program that takes the University of Winnipeg motto “Let Light and Truth Flourish” as its focus. Featured artists are UofW alumni who have used their creative voices to contend with themes of identity, reconciliation, the surreal and the sublime.

For forty years, Gallery 1C03 has been a touchstone for artistically inclined students to stay connected at UofW. Highlighting alumni artists honours the proliferation of arts and culture on campus and beyond. What does it look like to "Let Light and Truth Flourish"? Join us to explore ways in which this motto and the lasting influence of UofW and Gallery 1C03 are made manifest by these artists.

A group show in the gallery runs September 10 to November 13, an evening program of short films at Dave Barber Cinematheque takes place September 25, and a screening of Rhayne Vermette’s feature film, “Levers” will be held on campus the evening of October 26. Public conversations with selected artists are also planned. Artists include KC Adams, Dee Barsy, Steve Bates, Ian Bawa, Scott Benesiinaabandan, Mahlet Cuff, Christina Hajjar, Jaimie Isaac, Judah Iyunade, Mike Maryniuk, Kegan McFadden, Shivanya Ra, Paul Robles, Kevin Settee, Leslie Supnet, Ted Turner, Rhayne Vermette, and Melanie Zurba.

This project is curated by Gallery 1C03 Director/Curator Jennifer Gibson and independent curator Jenny Western, both of whom are also proud UofW alumni.

We are hiring 3-4 people as gallery attendants and art educators throughout the fall and winter terms. This role includes welcoming visitors to our exhibitions and engaging them in conversations and answering questions they may have about the art on display. With guidance from the Gallery’s Director/Curator, Jennifer Gibson, you will also work with staff as a team to deliver educational art workshops for youth. 👩‍🎨

Hours are minimal so that you can work around your existing class schedule and still get some valuable experience. This is a great opportunity if you would like to improve your public speaking skills, meet new people/artists, and immerse yourself in the world of art! 🖼️

Position: Art Gallery and Collections Technician
Hours: Full-time, temporary (35 hours per week)
Salary range: $27.79 - $39.44 per hour + 6% vacation pay
Start date: as soon as possible

In service of academic mandate as well as community outreach, the Art Curator’s Office operates the 750 square foot campus art gallery, Gallery 1C03, and manages the University’s art collection of nearly 1,200 historical and contemporary pieces. Collecting and exhibiting art comprises the core of the Office’s activities, with community outreach and publishing activities emanating from and supporting collections and exhibitions research.

The Art Gallery and Collections Technician is a full-time temporary position is primarily concerned with the documentation and preservation of the University’s art collection. They will also be involved in the preparation, installation and deinstallation of exhibitions and art on campus.

Gallery programs are taking a summer break. We are looking forward to time off to recharge. We are also excitedly preparing for our 40th anniversary exhibition, entitled “Lux et Veritas Floreant / Let Light and Truth Flourish”, opening in September. More to come!

As we pack up the “Beading Métis Resurgence” exhibition this week, we want to thank the artists, David Heinrichs (David Heinrichs ), Vi Houssin (violet ), Claire Johnston (Claire Johnston ), Jennine Krauchi, and Brianna Oversby for sharing their time and their beautiful creations with us.

We also want to thank everyone who came to the various activations that were associated with the exhibition, from the Artist Talk to the various workshops, thank you for your creative engagement!

Also, a special thank you to all our program partners, including the Winnipeg Arts Council , the Indigenous Student Services Center, Métis Inclusion Coordinator Candice Allard, the Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre, Dr. Chantal Fiola, Elder Barbara Bruce, Erin Millions, the Manitoba Craft Council council, the VP Academic Office, and the Indigenous Engagement Office. Huge thank you to all our gallery attendants, work-study students, and research assistants; Ruby, Abby, Taylor, Sage, Saskia, Elliot, Dylan, Laine, and Lily.

Now that the “Beading Metis Resurgence” exhibition is closed and our summer programing is nearly done, we wanted to highlight the workshops and tours we have done since the end of April.

We welcomed groups from the Exchange Met School - Seven Oaks School Division, Laureate Academy, Art City , the UWSA daycare, and from the Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre’s Indigenous STEAM camp!

Thank you to all the wonderful and creative participants!

It’s the final day to visit the incredible exhibition “Beading Metis Resurgence”. We will be open from 1:00 to 4:00 pm today.
