Chris Grossman was a German-born artist, teacher, and vibrant member of the Winnipeg Crafts community in the 1970s. Grossman practiced spinning, weaving, and pottery, and was named Craftsman of the Year in 1973 by the Crafts Guild of Manitoba. Grossman was a pottery teacher and long-term member of the Guild. She would eventually serve as its president from 1975-77. ⁠

This mold was used to make the prize brooches for the “In Praise of Crafts” shows in the late 1980s and early 1990s⁠

EXHIBITS

In the Shirley Richardson Craft Gallery: Serious Play, is a textiles exhibition exploring the radical potential of play.

Artists: Charlotte Sigurdson, Candace Neumann, Maureen Winnicki Lyons, & Miriam Delos Santos

In the Heritage Gallery: FIRED, from the collections of MCML, FIRED showcases 33 ceramic artists.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

From 12-3 pm, members of Prairie Canada Carvers will be on site demonstrating hand carving techniques for working with wood.

Used craft book sale (proceeds to MCML).

We have two new books in the Gladys Chown Memorial Library! These were purchased to recognize Marieke Gruwel and Judith Huebner who both retired from the board in March after six year terms, and four years each being Co-Presidents! Thank you to both Marieke and Judith for their support of MCML!

The library is open to everyone to browse on-site, so come in anytime to take a look. MCML members can borrow books - a great perk of membership!

Find all that the Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library has to offer! Both MCML members and non-members are welcome to browse our selection of rare books, which cover an extensive variety of crafts, and our museum collection for those wanting to examine the pieces we care for up close.

MCML members can borrow up to 15 books, and we are always accepting new members! Annual memberships begin at $30 for students, $45 for seniors, and $65 for individuals - swipe to see the full list of membership perks.
