PJ Anderson is an Afro-Jamaican and Métis ceramicist based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Anderson’s ceramic practice is rooted in cultural practice, continuance, and tradition. It combines coiling, burnishing, and basket-weaving techniques used by both traditional and contemporary African and Indigenous North-American makers. Anderson holds both a BFA and MFA from the University of Manitoba and has studied under traditional makers in South Africa and the American Southwest.

Karen Dahl is a Canadian ceramic artist known for her photo-realistic sculpture of everyday objects and forms. She holds a degree from the University of Regina and is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.

Our featured book shelf is displaying books that have been in our library for a long time! One of the unique things about the Gladys Chown Memorial Library is that we have old books, some published over 100 years ago. They don't usually have fancy covers, but they contain a wealth of information and inspiration.

And sometimes people used to write wonderful things in the front cover. Our copy of "Embroidery and Needlework" by Gladys Windsor Fry was purchased by the Embroidery Group at the Crafts Guild of Manitoba, using prize money for the Manitoba Sampler, which was exhibited at the 1943 Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts in Montreal and Quebec City.
