Society Of Illustrators

Society Of Illustrators Founded in 1901, the Society is the oldest nonprofit dedicated to the art of illustration in The USA.
(766)

On February 1, 1901 a group of nine artists and one advising businessman founded the Society, and by 1939 the Society had moved to its current headquarters in an 1875 carriage house located at 128 East 63rd Street. In 1981 the Museum of American Illustration was established which now features the art of such legendary artists as Rockwell, Pyle, Wyeth, Kent, Peak, Fuchs and Holland, as well as cont

emporary artists. In 2012 the Society received the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art, and created the MoCCA gallery in the second floor. Since then the Society has exhibited works by legendary artists Arnold Roth, Bill Griffith, and Harvey Kurtzman. The Society is also proud to now host the annual MoCCA Arts Festival.

Last night the Society of Illustrators hosted our second ever Speed Round Portfolio Pitch Mixer!

This was an event exclusive to our Illustrators - S Members and Student Members. The evening functioned similarly to that of a “speed dating” event.
Each mixer is centered around a different genre or industry within illustration, offering a unique opportunity for members to focus on specific areas of their craft.

This mixer primarily focused on Children’s Book Illustration works & career paths. We’re excited to expand this initiative and look forward to hosting future mixers focused on Advertising Illustration, Surface & Product Design, Comics & Cartooning, and more!

We thank our 8 professional Artists & Art Directors for coming out and giving our participants your valuable feedback on their portfolios, professional pitches, and networking skills!

We hope this event will inspire and provide guidance to young upcoming illustrators breaking out into the field, and will hopefully make an impact and guide them to their goals and aspirations!

We thank .delasheras Kate Renner & Jennifer Browne for your time and energy!

For questions about this event or signing up for membership at the society, please feel free to contact our Membership Manager, Melissa Kleynowski, at [email protected] or call 212-838-2560

New Year, New Exhibit! Join us as we celebrate 100 years of The New Yorker with Drawn from The New Yorker: A Centennial Celebration curated by Liza Donnelly.

The exhibit opens on Wednesday, January 8 and will be on view through Wednesday, March 12. There will be a Happy Hour & Opening Reception on Thursday, January 16 from 5-9pm that is open to the public and will feature music performances from Charlie Judkins and Miss Maybell (aka Lauren Sansaricq).

This exhibit showcases over 100 works by legendary artists like Roz Chast, Charles Addams, Barbara Shermund, and more. Focusing primarily on cartoons, this collection captures the magazine’s unparalleled blend of humor, culture, and artistry that has shaped its legacy.

It all started in 1925 with a bold idea (maybe a crazy one) by Harold Ross and Jane Grant to create a witty, sophisticated humor magazine for New Yorkers. They tapped into the spirit of the Jazz Age—and the rest is history.

Come see how The New Yorker changed the world of art and storytelling!

🎨 Illustration by Gluyas Williams, Albert Frueh (first drawing in The New Yorker's first issue), Helen E. Hokinson, Barbara Shermund, Peter Steiner, James Thurber, and Mads Horwath.
