This antique Caucasian carpet, a Shirwan Zeijwa from the early 20th century (350 x 149 cm), adds warmth to a minimalist and brightly lit space with its two large blue medallions against a white background. On the upper left side, there is a number (1335) written from left to right, more clearly visible on the reverse side of the carpet. The date corresponds to 1917 in the Arabic calendar, likely indicating the year of the carpet's creation.

Unlike English gardens, often designed for strolling, Islamic gardens are intended for rest, reflection, and contemplation. Some carpets feature dates or numbers within them, not always indicating the manufacturing date but sometimes referring to events or commemorations. It’s evident that the date alone isn’t the sole indicator for accurately dating a carpet.
Dates in Arabic numerals often correspond to the Islamic calendar, starting from the Hijra year 622 AD when Muhammad migrated from Mecca to Medina. This calendar is lunar-based, with each year being approximately 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar. For example, the date 1313 corresponds to 1896, considering the technical features of the carpet, suggesting it as the likely year of production.
The choice of monochromatic rugs harmonizes spaces without overwhelming them with excessive patterns. We use high-quality wool hand-spun in the Nepalese highlands for our rugs, along with silk borders to enhance luminosity. The slight irregularities of handwoven texture add warmth and energy, while the wool dyeing is done manually to ensure uniqueness in each piece.

Emblematic of water, interior decoration for Pisceans should have a touch of romance and magic, since Pisceans are known for their sensitivity and imagination. As good dreamers, the ideal decor for these individuals should be soft and cozy. Soft tones like light blues, and lilac are ideal to add a sense of tranquility and relaxation to the environment. Furniture in pastel shades and with soft textures, such as velvet or leather, are the perfect choice to match these shades.
The design of this carpet is classic, yet the colors are very modern, bringing harmony to this vintage-style living room. Contemporary carpet production often draws inspiration from traditional motifs but reinterprets them. The artifact we present was crafted in Afghanistan by highly skilled artisans using locally sourced materials.
What most captivates about Caucasian carpets is the variety of symbols that populate them, often with motifs of zoomorphic origin. Animals were traditionally associated with specific magical powers, derived from their individual characteristics. The reason many of these positive beings were depicted on carpets stemmed from the belief that portraying them would radiate positive virtues onto the creator of the image and the owner, offering protection from ailments and dangers. In Caucasian carpets, numerous quadruped animals are found, as in our Shirwan: one or two-humped camels, goats, sheep, and horses. Birds are equally recognizable, typically depicted with a triangular or approximately trapezoidal head, distinctive eye markings in a different color, a long neck, and backward lines representing plumage. Caucasian populations attributed great magical powers to birds as they soared through the air, serving as the ideal connection between heaven and earth.

The embroidery of excellent workmanship is of the late eighteenth century, while the trimming always done by hand is of recent manufacture. The scene portrays the courtship of a young man who with his flute tries to attract the attention of the shepherdess who, judging by the look, seems to be pleased. Perfect carpet, of the first years of the last century, among the most valuable in the panorama of the ancient Persians. Wonderful and classic KIRMAN LAVER large with floral decorations. Traditional is the large central rose window in the shape of a rhombus with “ flowering islands” inside the cobalt blue background. Ancient Persian Sultanabad carpet made in the Hamadan region which is located in the western part of Iran, 300 km west of Tehran. The main shipbuilding of these carpets lies in the sumptuousness of the design. Often of great dimensions they have a great medallion that sweeps on a united bottom, normally of red colour, much more rarely, as in our specimen with pale background. This antique rug from the 1920s, made of wool on cotton, comes from Bakshaish, a town in Persian Azerbaijan where precious and very particular carpets are woven. The decoration is of a stylized floral type with an all-out design. At the center we see a dense vegetable decoration with rosettes, polychrome palmettes and tendrils.
