This piece stems from an interest in exploring identity and transformation through portraiture. I used my friend Collin as the model—his expression and presence felt ideal for representing a visual duality. I drew inspiration from Mexican lucha libre masks, which I’ve always seen as powerful symbols of strength, anonymity, and theatricality. The real face merges with the masked persona, as if both coexist on the same plane.

I worked with ballpoint pens and Crayola crayons on paper, aiming for a texture that feels both intimate and vibrant. As a personal anecdote, the crayons I used belong to my daughter Miroslava, which added an unexpected layer of tenderness and familial connection to the process. The pink and blue are not merely decorative—they evoke a playful, almost childlike energy that contrasts with the seriousness of the portrait. The piece has no title, as I prefer the viewer to name it from their own experience.

Hi everyone!

Two years ago, my family and I moved from Mexico to Halifax, and I’ve been lucky to keep growing as a visual artist here. I create and sell paintings, hand-painted cards, portraits, custom furniture, and personalized clothing, shoes, phone cases and more. My favorite materials are charcoal, pen, acrylic, and watercolor.

"It's My Life" is a very special piece, the result of a collaboration between my 6-year-old daughter and me. As we worked together, she added imaginative and fun details, like a crown, blue glasses, and tiny characters screaming in fear.

This experience was more than just creating a drawing; it was a moment of connection that I hope inspires more parents to create alongside their children. These activities not only strengthen family bonds but also nurture children's creativity and self-esteem.

We named the piece "It's My Life" ( )because it's my daughter's favorite song, and it perfectly reflects the message we want to share: enjoying life with joy and creativity.

"It's My Life" es una obra muy especial, resultado de una colaboración entre mi hija de 6 años y yo. Mientras trabajábamos juntos, ella añadió detalles llenos de imaginación y diversión, como una corona, lentes azules, y unos pequeños personajes gritando asustados.

Esta experiencia fue mucho más que un dibujo; fue un momento de conexión que espero inspire a más padres a crear junto a sus hijos. Estas actividades no solo fortalecen los lazos familiares, sino que también estimulan la creatividad y la autoestima de los niños.

Llamamos a la obra "It's My Life" (de Bon Jovi) porque es la canción favorita de mi hija y refleja perfectamente el mensaje que queremos compartir: disfrutar la vida con alegría y creatividad.
