Join us on Oct 31st for fa-boo-lous guided tours scheduled throughout the day that are included in your museum admission. You never know what (or who 👀) you might encounter on the way….💀

We will also have dress up in the Days of Sail gallery 🏴‍☠️ spooky short films in the Warehouse Theatre 🦇 and scavenger hunts with prizes 🍬from 10-3pm

As part of Mi'kmaw History Month, Sipekne'katik Treaty Truckhouse is partnering with the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic to host live beading art demonstrations and showcase Mi'kmaw artisan vendors, in the museum's Small Craft Gallery.

Everyone is welcome to attend, participate and learn about the importance of the Sipekne'katik Treaty Truckhouse on the Halifax waterfront, and the continuing significance of exercising Mi'kmaw Treaty Rights through trade.

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic will be open with free admission on September 30 for Truth and Reconciliation Day.

The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Ta'n me'j Tel-keknuo'ltiek: How Unique We Still Are, reflects how Mi’kmaw people remain connected to the lands and waters of Mi’kma’ki. This space shares Mi’kmaw single-word concepts represented through personal testimony and histories of individual Mi’kmaw people. Reflect and learn with featured objects, artifacts, images and symbolic artwork. These experiences and understandings are rooted in cultural expressions that connect past, present and future in this place, here in Mi'kma'ki.

On September 12 and 13, the Maritime Heritage Festival showcased the stories, traditions and people that make Nova Scotia's maritime culture unique.

As part of Build Nova Scotia's commitment to creating vibrant public spaces and experiences, we're proud to bring events like this to our waterfronts, fostering community connections while celebrating our shared heritage.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's festival a success and to our partners who continue to bring the Maritime Heritage District to life.

🍂It’s the first day of autumn and we wanted to show off one of our beautiful collection pieces.

This is a whimsey carved leaf made from wreck wood from SS Castilian.

Whimsey refers to decorative, often non-functional pieces, made by artisans. They frequently showcase the exceptional skills of crafts people, such as woodworkers.

SS Castilian was wrecked off the coast of Yarmouth, NS on March 12th, 1899, after running aground. All crew members and passengers were saved. 🍁
