June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Across Canada, we're celebrating First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures.

In Nova Scotia, we also acknowledge that we are in Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and traditional territory of the Mi'kmaq people, and recognize their ongoing stewardship of these lands and waters.

Ta'n me'j Tel-keknuo'ltiek: How Unique We Still Are, is our continuing exhibit that reflects how Mi'kmaw people remain connected to the lands and waters, here in Mi'kmaw'ki.

Mi'kmaw single-word concepts are represented through personal testimony and histories of individual Mi'kmaw people from the community, with featured objects, artifacts, images and symbolic artwork.

The Canada Sail Grand Prix returns to the Halifax Waterfront. ⛵

As a proud partner of SailGP, we're excited to welcome athletes, teams, and visitors from around the world back to the Halifax Waterfront this June 20 – 21 for another weekend of world-class racing.

2024's event was a milestone for Nova Scotia. As the first SailGP event ever held in Canada, it welcomed more than 80,000 fans, generated over $14 million in economic impact, and showcased Halifax to a global audience. Athletes named Halifax the best racetrack of the year, while participants and fans recognized it as the league's best event of the season.

Events like SailGP help drive tourism, support local businesses, and highlight the Halifax Waterfront as a premier destination for major international events. The countdown to race day is on.

Sail Nova Scotia is proud to support this week’s weCANfoil Foil4All event at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on the Halifax waterfront by having our Technical Director, Sophia Josenhans and High-Performance Director Chris Watters as guest coaches along with our two rhibs. Have a great week everyone!

Many of the MMA crew were aboard CSS Acadia today to prep the ship, from bow to stern, as the ship will be opening soon to visitors!
Decks were washed, ship bell polished, and interpretive signage moved on the museum wharf.

Liverpool Packet was a schooner originally built in Baltimore as a slave ship called Severn. Four years after the Slave Trade Act of 1807 prohibited the selling of enslaved people within the British Empire, the vessel was captured for illegally transporting enslaved people. After its seizure, the ship was renamed Liverpool Packet and was repurposed as a privateer during the War of 1812.

This model serves as a window into a complex past, highlighting the evolving role of ships during wartime and when slavery was common.
