As art handlers, our job was to help Öğüt’s idea come to life. Two, hollowed-out pick-up trucks were waiting for us in a parking lot of Allen Memorial Art Museum, to be moved into their gallery for Öğüt’s piece. Luckily, the in-house preparators removed the engines and seats, as well as cut the vehicles in half, for ease of transportation ahead of time. With their guidance and our expertise in rigging we carefully lifted the pieces of trucks onto our moving van, transported them to the dock, and wheeled them to the elevator and through to their final spot in the gallery

A very interesting recent job was to move two, hollowed-out pick-up trucks from the parking lot of Allen Memorial Art Museum, into their gallery!

A few short weeks ago our President, Lisa Holly, and her niece, Tara Melton, went to the Ohio Museums Association Conference in Newark, Ohio. Lisa and Tara stayed at the beautiful Cherry Valley Hotel and had a wonderful experience. On Saturday, the Conference kicked off the weekend with a ton of local museum tours in Newark, Lancaster, and Granville

For nearly 15 years the sister and brother duo, Lisa Holly and Woody Melton, have been in charge of the company passed on to them by their parents. After the untimely death of their mother, the founder of the now nearly 60-year-old Berea Moving and Storage Co., the torch was passed on to her children.

Lisa Melton Holly and Woody Melton became President and Vice President in 2006. Woody, being a self-proclaimed music historian and having a passion for preserving history, has developed and evolved the business into International Art Handler, moving priceless items for the Cleveland Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Orchestra and the like. Hence, a new division has formed: WOOD-LEE International Art Handler.

Going by Dell, at that time, people assumed that a man was going to come out and meet them. So it overcame an obstacle, as a woman owned business. WOOD-LEE International Art Handler is well trained in Disaster Preparedness. While we do all that we can to prevent any man-made disasters on our account, unfortunately, natural disasters are unavoidable and the best we can do is be as prepared as possible on how to handle them when they occur.

One of the works Turkish artist, Ahmet Öğüt, is known for constructing is a “barricade” in art galleries from locally sourced traffic materials. As art handlers, our job was to help Öğüt’s idea come to life. Two, hollowed-out pick-up trucks were waiting for us in a parking lot of Allen Memorial Art Museum, to be moved into their gallery for Öğüt’s piece.
