For the month of August, we’re celebrating Amber Kempthorn as our Artist of the Month!

Amber’s drawings explore nostalgia, memory, and the passage of time. Each composition is built through layers of acrylic ink, graphite, gouache, watercolor, and collage. Familiar objects, birds, expansive skies, and Midwestern landscapes gather in unexpected arrangements, transforming pieces of everyday life into dreamlike reflections on what is fleeting, remembered, and lost.

Although the human figure never appears, its presence is felt throughout her work; whether it be from an overturned bottle, a feather, or a pair of shoes. These ordinary subjects become records of lived experience, suggesting the people, places, and moments that remain with us.

Kempthorn’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States, including in the 2026 Great Lakes Drawing Biennial, inaugural FRONT International, and at the Akron Art Museum. She is an Associate Professor of Drawing at the Cleveland Institute of Art and lives and works in Hiram, Ohio.

This July, we celebrated John Troxell as our Artist of the Month! Check out his newest pieces at the gallery, featured here!

Born in Cleveland, Troxell is known for his richly detailed landscapes that capture the beauty, atmosphere, and changing character of the natural world. His work has been exhibited across Ohio and throughout the country and can be found in numerous public and corporate collections, including the Cleveland Clinic, Parker Hannifin Corporation, and Akron General Hospital.

We’re pleased to have several new paintings by Troxell at the gallery, from the warmth of a crisp autumn forest to the intricate stillness of freshly fallen snow.

This month, we are thrilled to spotlight collage artist Jeff Kallet! Jeff Kallet Collage

Based in Athens, Ohio, Kallet creates richly layered works from found papers, old books, magazines, catalogs, and ephemera, transforming discarded fragments into compelling visual compositions. Balancing abstraction, narrative, and chance, his collages invite viewers into imaginative worlds where unexpected connections emerge and ordinary materials take on new life.

Please help us welcome our newest artist to the Bonfoey Gallery: Kurt Herrmann! .herrmann

Kurt Herrmann brings a bold, intuitive approach to abstraction, rooted in his identity as a colorist and shaped by the landscapes of rural Pennsylvania. His “Color Bomb” series distills memory, sensation, and place into rhythmic bands of saturated color that feel both expansive and intimate, works that can command a room while inviting quiet, personal reflection. Herrmann’s paintings resist fixed meaning, instead offering viewers an open, emotional encounter with color itself.

The three works featured here are part of Herrmann’s “Alcohol Series,” inspired by the jewel-like glow of whiskey and wine when struck by light. Influenced by themes of memory, nostalgia, and personal experience, the series explores the atmosphere and emotion tied to what we drink.

Brinsley Tyrrell, our May Artist of the Month, is an internationally celebrated artist whose career has spanned sculpture, drawing, ceramics, and public commissions. Though he considers himself foremost a sculptor, working in clay, bronze, wood, and stone, Tyrrell’s pastel landscapes reveal another deeply personal side of his practice.

Inspired by his longtime home and studio in Freedom Township, these vibrant works capture his emotional connection to the surrounding countryside with expressive color, movement, and atmosphere. Inspired by nature’s constant energy and transformation, Tyrrell’s drawings translate familiar fields, trees, and changing skies into works that feel both intimate and alive.

This month, we are pleased to highlight these remarkable pastels, offering a glimpse into the vision of an artist whose work has enriched Northeast Ohio and beyond for decades.

Today we’re spotlighting our April Artist of the Month, Robert Robinson!

Born in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1953, Robert M. Robinson showed artistic promise early, joining the Harry Hickman Landscape Art Association at just 13. After earning his Fine Arts degree from Edinboro University in 1975, Robinson quickly gained recognition for his bold abstract work.

One of his best known pieces, “Souvenir,” was acquired by the Carnegie Museum of Art, and still remains a tribute to Pittsburgh’s dying steel industry. Robinson’s dynamic mixed-media abstractions are collected privately, as well as corporately, both nationally and internationally.

Huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening reception of “Marilyn Farinacci — Remembered!” It was a beautiful evening celebrating and we were grateful to share it with such a thoughtful and inquisitive community.

We were especially honored to have Marilyn’s family and close friends with us for the opening, sharing in this special tribute to her life and work.

If you haven’t seen the exhibition yet, we invite you to stop in during our open hours to view! “Marilyn Farinacci — Remembered” remains on display through May 31st.
