Two opportunities to experience the remarkable work of Laurence Channing at the Bonfoey Gallery!

The opening of “Laurence Channing: Then and Now” will be here before you know it, and this is one you won’t want to miss.

Join us at the Bonfoey Gallery on Friday, November 6, from 5-7 PM to explore drawings and paintings spanning 3 decades of Channing’s career.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the gallery is also hosting “Coffee & Conversation,” on Saturday, November 14, from 10 AM - 12 PM. William Busta will be speaking with Channing about the development of his artistic style, the decisions that have shaped his practice, and his distinctive approach to light. Enjoy coffee and a closer look at the artist’s work, past and present.

Our October Artist of the Month is Andrea Joki! Andrea Joki

There’s a lot to discover in a single line. In Joki’s paintings, stripes give way to loose brushwork, colors peek through layered surfaces, and repeated marks reveal small variations. Each work has its own pace, inviting the eye to follow a different path.

Drawing on experiences of travel and place, Joki explores time, change, and perception through an open approach to painting. The works featured here offer a glimpse of that range, from spare gray strokes to dense networks of color.

This November, the Bonfoey Gallery is pleased to present “Laurence Channing: Then and Now.” Laurence Channing

This fall, we’re bringing together drawings that established Channing’s reputation, alongside an entirely new body of work, on view to the public for the first time.

📷 Our September Artist of the Month: Tim Lachina! Tim Lachina

Cleveland photographer Tim Lachina finds beauty in industrial landscapes and overlooked places. Through dramatic contrasts and careful framing, he reveals the beauty in steel mills, railways, and the structures that shape these landscapes. He describes his approach as a “visual haiku;” a few carefully chosen elements that leave room for the viewer’s imagination.

A graphic designer and art director for more than 30 years, Lachina brings a keen eye for form to his photography. His work was featured in Two Views at The Bonfoey Gallery, and his book Abandoned America was selected for an exhibition at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

For the month of August, we’re celebrating Amber Kempthorn as our Artist of the Month!

Amber’s drawings explore nostalgia, memory, and the passage of time. Each composition is built through layers of acrylic ink, graphite, gouache, watercolor, and collage. Familiar objects, birds, expansive skies, and Midwestern landscapes gather in unexpected arrangements, transforming pieces of everyday life into dreamlike reflections on what is fleeting, remembered, and lost.

Although the human figure never appears, its presence is felt throughout her work; whether it be from an overturned bottle, a feather, or a pair of shoes. These ordinary subjects become records of lived experience, suggesting the people, places, and moments that remain with us.

Kempthorn’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States, including in the 2026 Great Lakes Drawing Biennial, inaugural FRONT International, and at the Akron Art Museum. She is an Associate Professor of Drawing at the Cleveland Institute of Art and lives and works in Hiram, Ohio.

This July, we celebrated John Troxell as our Artist of the Month! Check out his newest pieces at the gallery, featured here!

Born in Cleveland, Troxell is known for his richly detailed landscapes that capture the beauty, atmosphere, and changing character of the natural world. His work has been exhibited across Ohio and throughout the country and can be found in numerous public and corporate collections, including the Cleveland Clinic, Parker Hannifin Corporation, and Akron General Hospital.

We’re pleased to have several new paintings by Troxell at the gallery, from the warmth of a crisp autumn forest to the intricate stillness of freshly fallen snow.

Based in Athens, Ohio, Kallet creates richly layered works from found papers, old books, magazines, catalogs, and ephemera, transforming discarded fragments into compelling visual compositions. Balancing abstraction, narrative, and chance, his collages invite viewers into imaginative worlds where unexpected connections emerge and ordinary materials take on new life.
