For any Latin Rock fans in the Bay Area, check out this exciting concert coming up February 11 in San Francisco.
“NO Se Acabo - JA Latin Rock Reimagined” is the story of the journey of SF-based musician / percussionist/ composer Julio Areas, through generations of his musical family in Nicaragua, to Afro-Caribbean and other influences from the famed Mission district, to international study. The music of his uncle Jose “Chepito” Areas, original timbalero of Latin Rock sound and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee with Santana, and longtime percussionist Karl Perazzo, is the bedrock for JA multi genre creativity that reimagines and moves forward the Latin Rock of today.

Poco were the true pioneers of the genre 'Country rock' and opened the door for bands like The Eagles who followed their path. We sadly lost both Rusty Young and Paul Cotton in 2021 but I am hoping the rest of the band (Richie Furay, Jim Messina, George Grantham, Randy Meisner, Jack Sundrud and also later members) will be inducted into the RRHOF in 2023.......
we can only hope and pray...

#22 - Family vacation and visit to Cleveland, Ohio. I got to see the Cleveland Guardians play, meet Slider The Mascot , go to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame , and we stayed at the A Christmas Story House 🏠. In a busy, busy year: this trip was pure fun and Cleveland definitely rocked!

Beatlemaniac, Wilbury, Mover, EL Orchestrator, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame member, award-winner, producer, songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist: Jeff Lynne is all of these and more. On his 75th birthday, we’re thrilled to say we can’t get him out of our head!
It’s a big one for singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Jeff Lynne of the
Electric Light Orchestra and Traveling Wilburys and a member of OBE (Order of the British Empire) who celebrates his 75th spin around the sun.
From my brothers Christmas gift in ‘76 of ‘A New World Record’ I have been a fan. I was lucky enough to see the Electric Light Orchestra twice "back in the day" - and recently in 2019 - what an incredibly tight, rich sounding band…and they always have been. I was blessed to be in the crowd in NYC to see ELO get into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

The Monkees used to take a lot of abuse having been cast to play a rock band. I'm sure some of that still exists here and there, but that's more of an ignorance thing. When the guys from the start injected their own playing styles, personalities, and songwriting both as part of the gig voluntarily, and forcefully later on...snapping the creative reigns from some of their corporate overlords...the project gained an additional form of credibility, which has greatly helped to keep its impact fresh to this day.
In my world there's no doubt as to the Monkees' impact, not just as a whole, but also as individuals. They were all writers on many of the songs, performers on all of them, but it was their personalities and skills that drove things like being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, becoming successful directors and producers, industry pioneers, and even developer of an idea called MTV. Ironically, the show for me really started to get interesting on its last episode, which Micky directed. It had a whole avant-garde vibe, Frank Zappa was in it, and it made a really interesting statement on how media makes people zombies...a strangely familiar concept.
In 1967, their album HEADQUARTERS, which was the 4 guys in the studio alone with producer Chip Douglas, was their third #1 album, only to be knocked to #2 by SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND, both of which became the two top selling albums at that time. Stadium tours, playing to 20,000 people at a time, the 4 Monkees became what they were hired to do, but it took an unexpected turn. The REAL Peter Tork (Official) had written the closing theme of the show, they had all written/cowritten loads of tunes in the catalogue, and Mike, who was a committed songwriter, had written and co-written [over time] almost 40 tunes in the group's catalogue. Their contributions to songs other talented writers had written also had great impact. The famous riff in "Pleasant Valley Sunday" was played by Mike...all of the guys are playing on "Daydream Believer", and so on. I haven't even mentioned their impact on pop culture, film and television...and on songwriters and musicians ever since. Micky would say, "It was as if Leonard Nimoy had become a Vulcan", but to put it in more 2022 terms, I would say it was like Captain Kirk actually going into space.
Here's one of the many infectious tunes Mike wrote for The Monkees.
