Located in the heart of downtown Buffalo, the WNY Book Arts Center is a community print shop and studio for letterpress, screen printing, book binding, paper making, calligraphy, origami, and more! We are a nonprofit organization and a working museum dedicated to preserving the book arts through collaboration and innovation, bridging antique equipment and processes with modern artmaking techniques, and celebrating the heritage of Buffalo’s’ printing industry. We are proud to act as a hub to create and foster a collaborative community by providing opportunities to artists and educators, and all those in creative pursuits.

Scenes from our sold out Spooky Linocut Block Printing class with Laurissa Widrick of Hodgepodge Press!

Participants brought in their own designs or were able to use some lovely, classic Halloween images designed by the artist. Not only were the final results wonderfully spooky, but we also realized there’s a witchy hunch to the linocut making posture as the artist conjures their creatures! Spoookyyyyyy

Make sure to keep an eye out for prints by Hodgepodge Press in the shop next time you visit!

Last week Book Arts, and downtown, was full of librarians visiting the Central Library for a conference and, let’s first just say, may we all hope to have a city overrun by librarians! They were the most joyous guests. We had a wonderful time introducing the group to our space and leading them in book & printmaking activities.

That said: we’d love to host your group too - even if you’re not librarians!

Whether you’re a fun teacher interested in hands-on field trips; a creative leader interested in team building; or a thoughtful friend interested in throwing a unique birthday party for your BFF: bring your group to Book Arts to learn and make together!

Our current exhibitions are on view through Oct 17th. Make sure to pop in!

Disrupted — an exhibition of work by printmaking artist Kathleen Sherin is in our Main Gallery. Sherin is a 2026 recipient of the New York State Council of the Arts (NYSCA) Individual Artist Grant sponsored through WNY Book Arts Center.

She recently taught an Introduction to Silk Aquatint & Carborundum Collagraphic Monoprinting at Book Arts to share some of her techniques.

Then make sure to head downstairs to our Studio Gallery for Amanda Maciuba’s Natural Mythologies. Amanda’s exhibition is the result of her time as Book Arts’ Studio Artist Resident this summer.

These exhibitions are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

A spot has opened up in our Letterpress Printing Basics class w/ Caitlin Caldwell that begins next week!

During this 3-part class you’ll learn the ins & outs of letterpress printing on our Vandercook presses, and get to use our collection of vintage metal & wood type, images (cuts) and ornaments to create a truly unique card or poster.

This class fills up often and runs every other month or so! Folks who take it gain the necessary skills to work independently in our Letterpress Studio and become eligible to book Open Studio hours to work on their own projects. (Open Studio is available for Book Arts Members only. Learn more at the link in our bio!)
