The lovely Ginny O’Brien stopped by this afternoon, sharing some of her thoughts on one of our FAVORITE pieces in the exhibition. “Mystery and Wonder” is a silk satin weave with elements painted over. O’Brien describes the imagery as “Abstract and Figurative,” a space where the viewer can look into her weavings and find shapes themselves. O’Brien talks about of the Rocky Mountains, where she spent some of her youth and how the jagged shaped through the piece evoke these memories for her. Additionally, she identifies the lighter shape on the righthand side as perhaps a person, with there head bowed towards the left.

We are so excited for our newest exhibition “Stratified” that will be opening next Friday on the 25th! The featured artists are Ginny O’Brien and Linda Coppola, and their opening reception will be from 5-8pm. We hope to see you there!

The works above are by Linda Coppola herself! Connected to the exhibition’s themes of lived experiences, changes, and memories, these examples specifically are about conversations made between generations. In her own words, these can include the unspoken rules, expectations, bonds, feuds, memories, love, and forgiveness that can be found in familial relationships.

Linda experimented with the original piece seen above after she made a copy of the work on her printer. She then reduced the size of the piece, then hand painted over it with some extra adjustments, resulting in the second image. As she describes, not only was the artwork different, but she felt different as well!

This artwork from Barbara Murak’s exhibition “Imaginal Stitching” we’d like to highlight today is titled “Wave”, and measures 12 x 16 inches. This piece has such fun tones woven into it, and makes for a truly remarkable piece. The shape of the woven threads make for such a wild texture, and the color variation inside of the green and blue makes it so unique. From a far, it looks green and blue, but up close, you can see yellow, purple, and even pink!

This week’s artwork we’d like to highlight from our member’s exhibition is Shanel Kerekes’ “Party Next Door”! At 24 x 36 inches, this painting is absolutely stunning. The stark contrast between the playful colors, tied with the innocent child hoping to grab a slice of cake, is absolutely adorable. Kerekes also plays with different textures in this work, providing a 3d element to the sprinkles and party hat with sparkles and paper cut outs. This makes them really stand out!
