MARISOL: Today, May 22, we are celebrating Marisol's 96th birthday. After her death in 2016, Marisol left her estate to the Buffalo AKG in recognition of her long relationship with the museum. Learn more → buffaloakg.org/marisol
Buffalo AKG Archivist Gabrielle Carlo found this poster in the pages of one of Marisol’s notebooks from 1980–81. The notebook was in the file cabinets of her office that also contained her library and other files (photographs, files, various objects on her desk and in the drawers). We don’t know who the cat is, but she may have sketched it for her cat sculptures. We loved it so much that we turned it into a t-shirt and tote bag, available now in the Shop!

"May we honor the lessons of love that can be found in the lives of the ten ancestors we gained on that day, and in the generations of ancestors before them."–Tiffany Gaines
We join our community in celebrating the lives of the ten individuals who were slain on May 14, 2022.

SAVE THE DATE: Join us May 18 at 6 pm for After Hours: Curators in Conversation, featuring Andrea Alvarez, PhD, Curator at the Buffalo AKG, and Claudia Zapata, PhD, Associate Curator of Latino Art at The Blanton Museum of Art, in conversation around the artists, trends, and politics that shape contemporary Latinx art. Enjoy complimentary beverages, light snacks, and conversation, and explore the museum in new ways.
Prominent in the exhibition "Let Us Gather in a Flourishing Way," currently on view, are the deep complexities of Latinx Art—a field born out of the necessity to platform artists of the diaspora. As Latinx artistry continues to flourish and evolve, so does the advocacy and scholarship of those seeking greater representation in the contemporary art world.

OPENING SOON: The museum shines because of the work of the 183 staff that contribute to all facets of our operations. To celebrate their dedication and to spotlight their work—as artists—the Buffalo AKG is proud to present "Off the Clock: A Buffalo AKG Staff Art Show," an exhibition of works made by staff. The wide range of media and artistic styles represented mirrors the diverse interests of the staff themselves and their own unique pathways that brought them here.
"Off the Clock: A Buffalo AKG Staff Art Show" opens on Friday, June 5, and will be on view through Sunday, August 2, 2026, in the M&T Bank Gallery located in the Knox Building. Admission to the Knox Building is always free! Learn more at buffaloakg.org/exhibitions
