Printmakers Inc., opened in June 1975 at the Torpedo Factory Arts Center in Alexandria, VA, with the intent to create and promote original hand-pulled prints. Thirty-nine years later we still make original hand-pulled prints in our workshop, and show them in changing exhibitions in our gallery. We participate in outreach to the public through special events, demonstrations and explanations about p

rintmaking techniques. The membership consists of ten dedicated and skilled printmakers, working in a variety of media. Several artists work with relief techniques (woodcuts, linocuts), others do monoprints, lithography, intaglio (etching, etc.), and silkscreens. Some work in more than one medium, and many combine different techniques, experimenting with new ideas. We learn from each other and support our fellow printmakers' efforts. The style of our work ranges from representational to abstract, black and white to color. is working with a New England printmaking group to create a portfolio of prints. Among different venues, the co-op has recently exhibited as a group in Williamsburg, VA. Studio 325 is open every day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. You are invited to visit our studio to see our work and ask questions.

"There's a land I've Heard once in a lullaby" by Vero Barker-Barzel Kelly
This relief piece was inspired by the Wizard of Oz stories, Vero says. She really likes the idea of flying monkeys.
What classic story inspires you?

"Still Life #1" by Pamela Day

"My monotype series explores still life," Pam says. "I am in awe of Morandi’s abilities to create interest in ordinary objects. My process is using the subtractive technique of monotype in the three process colors of Blue (cyan), Red (magenta), and Yellow, overprinting the same plate to combine the colors. I keep rearranging the bottles."

"On the Shore" by Avis Fleming
"I like the triptych format because it is dynamic, while the diptych, which I use more, is broad and peaceful," says Avis. "I wanted the stormy atmosphere to pe*****te the woods and the sky. A Nor'easter."
