Last Thursday the Broadway Gallery team had the pleasure of attending the opening of “We Dwell in Between”, an exhibition of works by Marie B. Guathiez.

Broadway Gallery worked closely with Marie to frame some of the pieces in the show. Marie often uses nontraditional media such as drywall, plaster, and insulation as she explores themes of identity and memory through the physical home as a metaphor for the subconscious. While untraditional the media she uses is intentional and part of the story this exhibition tells. Framing these materials inspired the production team to get creative to create displays that protect the artwork. Broadway Gallery collaborated with Marie to mount the artworks safely while still displaying the unique details of each work.

This show was hosted by Tephra ICA and curated by the 2024 Art Table fellow, Chenoa Baker. It can be viewing through June 29th at the Signature gallery in Reston Town Center.

These two great explorers deserve frames worthy of their adventures in the wilderness! A burlap fabric was chosen to be wrapped over an off-white 8-ply mat as a nod to their rusticating. The rough burled wood frame is elevated by the antiqued silver detail. The flat face of the frame fits the custom plaques perfectly!

With acid-free plastic corners used to mount the portraits and check, there is no tape touching the historic mementos. Protected with 99% UV filtering museum glass that reduces both fading AND reflections. Ask Broadway Gallery framing experts about the safest way to frame your collection!

“The Mountains are Calling and I Must Go”

This John Muir quote describes the serene and inviting beauty of the valley captured by Christine Lashley in her painting “Clearing Skies”. One can almost feel the moisture in the air and hearing the gentle breeze as the clouds lift. Currently on display at Broadway Gallery in Great Falls, this work is part of the ongoing show of works by Christine Lashley. This collection is open for viewing daily Mon-Sat 10 AM to 6 PM. Not your average shadowbox!

With multiple oval openings, 3-dimensional artwork, mixed textures and colors, this is certainly not an ordinary shadowbox. Small objects have a tendency to be lost, broken, or collect dust unless they are properly protected and displayed. A shadowbox is a great way to display your collection safely long-term. What an Incredible Night!

Thank you to all who attended “A Taste of Paris” Art and Wine Pairing dinner with Christine Lashley and BRX American Bistro!!

Much like the original French Impressionist, Christine Lashley is a plein aire painter meaning she often paints her scenes from sight and on location. She captures the light, movement, and energy of each scene so well it feels like we are right there with her! Inspired by Christine’s scenes of France, and her impressionist predecessors, Chef Carey of BRX Bistro planned an amazing five course wine pairing dinner with ingredients that were available and frequently used in French cooking in the 18th century.

Enjoy some of Christine’s plein aire paintings from the now exclusive Monet’s Garden in Giverny, France.

A simple fix can make your artwork look brand new!

This piece wasn’t framed by the Broadway Gallery… just given a makeover. Originally framed with a simple white mat, the artwork was not displayed to its best advantage. Adding a deep teal mat and painting the bevel of both mats gold totally transforms the artwork and makes the warm orange and dark teal pop!

You’re Invited !!!🥂🎨👨‍🍳

On February 20th, Christine Lashley will be giving an artist talk at a ticketed art and wine pairing dinner hosted in partnership with neighboring restaurant BRX American Bistro. At this event, Christine will unveil new paintings of Great Falls and the Potomac River and speak to guests about her work in the gallery where the first course of champagne and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The remaining four courses will be served at BRX American Bistro next door, where more of Christine’s work will be on display. Tickets for the event are $120 per person and can be reserved by emailing Andrew Cope, one of the owners, at [email protected]. Seating is limited.

Inspired by Christine Lashley’s scenes of France, Chef Christopher Carey has curated a fantastic five course meal of French food and wine. Check out the incredible menu planned for the evening

This is the second Art & Wine Pairing dinner with BRX American Bistro. Last November Chef Carey prepared many decadent courses inspired by Fred Eberhart’s Virginia landscape photography with all locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. Custom framing isn’t magic, but it comes pretty close 🪄

These prints are so beautifully done and the perfect way to incorporate your favorite series when designing your interiors. The simple design of the Triwizard Tournament print is enhanced by a green copper frame with an aged silver fillet that plays into the color scheme of the artwork and references the aged message within the egg. The mat resembles aged parchment, and just enough mat is used to keep the non-reflective museum glass off the artwork without distracting from the artwork or frame and fillet.

The Howler prints calls for a little more drama! A diamond pattern frame was selected to mirror the diamond pattern on the envelope and pointed edges of the Howler. The deep wine red mat focuses attention on the Howler and complements the client’s home decor. The gold bottom mat adds a bright border and ties in the gold lettering.

Making memories last is easy with a little help from your friends at Broadway Gallery!

This 1964 Beatles jacket has been stretched, sewn, and framed to protect it for years to come. The fabric was creased and hid part of the letter, so a rigid foam core bodice was cut to stretch the jacket to show the full lettering. The arms were folded and sewn in place to create symmetry and ensure they cannot move in the frame. The taupe fabric mat matched the lettering perfectly for a simple and seamless design. The truvueglazing museum glass protects the fabric from UV rays and prevents pesky reflections from distracting the viewer. Finally, the jacket was framed with a sleek satin black frame that mimic the sheen on the satin jacket.

Broadway Gallery is presenting an exhibition of works by celebrated local artist Christine Lashley Feb 21-March 26 at Broadway Gallery in Great Falls. There will be a ticketed pre-opening event Feb 20th with artist talk by Christine Lashley and wine pairing dinner with neighboring restaurant . The show will open to the public the following day, February 21st, with an open house reception 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Details on the ticketed event coming soon! As a contemporary impressionist painter and lifelong nature enthusiast, Christine Lashley gathers most of her ideas by painting outdoors. The art she creates on location or in the studio is about the beauty of a moment held in memory. Her paintings often fuse reality and the abstract, using color and texture to look realistic from afar but dissolve into abstraction up close. Her works capture the feeling of being in a space with city scenes bursting with energy and landscapes where the clouds seem to be drifting and water flows softly or rushes over rocks.

This Julie Shahn linocut turned out spectacular 🤩

In print-making, paper is considered an integral part of the artwork itself and is often chosen very intentionally by the artist. This paper is soft and thick and has a great organic texture, so it definitely needed to be seen in the display! To show the full uneven edge of the artwork, it was floated onto a piece of acid-free 2-ply mat and then mounted to this green fabric mat with a black cross weave. The deep green creates amazing contrast with the brightly colored artwork, and makes the flowers pop. The mats were cut with circle openings to enhance the unique shape of the artwork. A gold bottom mat was selected to tie into the rich warmth of the artwork and the gold accents on the frame. The black top mat centers the focus from the frame to the artwork itself. The typically white bevels of both mats were painted black to further emphasize the Chrysanthemums as the only white in the artwork. The green frame with gold accents and a linear pattern perfectly complement the colors in the artwork, as well as the linear detailing in the center of the flowers. Like the artist intentionally chose her print-making paper, every component of this frame design was selected with care.

Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day, take the fish to Broadway Gallery and you can enjoy your catch for a lifetime!

Yes, this is a real stuffed barracuda! With some incredible colors and silvery sheen on the fish, a navy mat was selected to create contrast and paired with a silver. A custom plaque was made to commemorate the monumental catch. Playing around with the idea of mimicking a stag head mount, the barracuda was mounted to a fabric matboard reinforced by wood to hold the weight of the fish. Two strong bolts keep the fish securely in place and wall friendly hardware on the back of the frame makes mounting a breeze. In other words this fish won’t be flopping anytime soon!

Picture perfect 🖼️✅

After collaborating with the client and their designer, Broadway Gallery was able to find a nice selection of contemporary floral artwork with her favorite color blue as the main factor. Not to overwhelming, but just enough to connect to the space. In the end the client was thrilled with this original painting on canvas and whole process of being involved and contributing! Listening, and collaborating either clients leads to results that satisfy everyone. Another happy client and a positive experience!

Many of us can relate to the pressure of last minute holiday shopping, and would find ourselves in company with one of America’s wealthiest families at the turn of the 20th century. This pastel portrait of Eva Stotesbury was completed by Douglas Chandor in the course of a day… when she had time to step away from her hosting responsibilities that is.

If you find yourself still on the hunt for the perfect gift, stop by one of Broadway Gallery’s two locations for unique fine art gifts including jewelry, ceramics, sculptures, woodwork serving and cutting board, stained glass, ornaments, and other original artworks.
