🧡 Where the Wild Things Are 🧡

A Little Color Goes a Long Way

Some paintings invite you to look a little closer. Others make you fall in love from across the room. With three beautiful new arrivals, Mark Yearwood reminds us that a remarkable work of art doesn’t need to be grand in scale to leave a lasting impression.

In Verano, brilliant turquoise blues meet fiery oranges and deep crimson, capturing the warmth and vibrancy of a summer that seems reluctant to fade. Bold passages of color rise through delicate layers of texture, creating a composition that feels both spontaneous and beautifully considered.

Ancient Layers offers a softer conversation. Creamy whites, dusty pinks, muted greens, and whispers of violet drift across the canvas, revealing glimpses of color beneath the surface. There is a wonderful sense of discovery here, as though each layer holds a memory of something that came before.

The Strength of Stillness

There is a certain power in the things that stand unwavering. A quiet confidence found in the balance of form, the depth of color, and the beauty of a composition that needs no explanation.

In Native Structure, Poteet Victory explores this strength through a striking arrangement of geometric forms and commanding color. Rich cobalt blues envelop the canvas, shifting between deep, velvety shadows and luminous passages of light. Brilliant whites emerge from the blue, their edges softening and dissolving into the surrounding color, creating a beautiful tension between structure and spontaneity.

Beauty, Uncontained

There is something wonderfully untamed about a garden left to find its own way.

In Poteet Victory’s Black Beauties II, a cascade of crimson blooms spills through the composition, gathering and separating with a rhythm that feels almost alive. Deep black centers pull the eye inward while layers of scarlet and burgundy emerge against a field of soft white, framed by rough passages of charcoal gray.

From across the room, the painting is immediate: bold, graphic, and impossible to overlook. Move closer and it begins to change. Individual brushstrokes reveal themselves, delicate lines weave between the blossoms, and what first appeared orderly becomes beautifully unpredictable.

At an impressive scale, Black Beauties II has a presence that transforms the space around it. It is floral without feeling delicate, romantic without becoming precious—a garden with a little wildness still left in it.

A Spirit All Its Own

Every so often, an artist steps somewhere unexpected.

In Poteet Victory’s Spirit of the Plains, a solitary tipi rises from the open land, quiet beneath a sky that seems anything but. Deep blues gather along the horizon while brilliant orange, crimson, and violet roll overhead, giving the scene an almost elemental energy.

It is a striking departure within Poteet’s body of work. The tipi is a subject he rarely explores, and the cool blues set against that fiery sky create a palette unlike much of what we typically see from him. Yet the painting remains unmistakably Poteet—bold, atmospheric, and driven by a feeling for the land that extends far beyond simply depicting it.

Perhaps it should come as no surprise that Spirit of the Plains never had the chance to settle onto our walls. The painting found its home before it was even hung.

There is something special about seeing an artist wander beyond familiar territory and discovering what waits there. With Poteet’s recent paintings rarely staying with us for long, sometimes those moments are just as fleeting.

In Kathy Piccione’s Matriarch, strength is found in stillness. Her subject meets the viewer directly, composed and unwavering, while brilliant passages of turquoise, gold, orange, and blue move across her face. Along for the Ride

Some journeys are simply better with company.

In Kathy Piccione’s Hitching A Ride, five small passengers find an unlikely perch atop the broad back of a bison. There’s a wonderful contrast at play: the quiet weight and strength of the animal below, the delicate gathering of birds above, all set against an expanse of brilliant blue.

Piccione has a gift for finding personality in the natural world without losing its dignity. Here, a simple encounter becomes something warmer—a fleeting moment of companionship, balance, and perhaps a little opportunism.

The rich golds and deep browns of the bison seem to glow against the turquoise ground, giving the painting an almost dreamlike clarity. Look closer, though, and the smallest details begin to take over: five tiny birds, each with its own posture, comfortably letting someone else do the walking.

Painted in the Moment

Some landscapes are remembered. Others are met exactly where they are.

Monty Singer’s plein air paintings carry the immediacy of standing before a place and responding to it while the light, color, and atmosphere are still unfolding. Painted in situ, each work becomes an intimate record of a particular moment in the Southwest.

Across this collection, Singer finds extraordinary color in the quieter details of the land. Sage greens and dusty violets gather along distant hillsides. Deep reds emerge from the Chama country. Autumn gold catches in a stand of trees, while cool blues and muted earth tones settle into the reflections of the bosque.

Look closer and the compositions begin to reveal themselves in layers. A winding road disappears toward the hills. Broken strokes become distant trees and rocky slopes. A Spirit on the Move

Some paintings seem destined to travel.

Ray Tigerman’s Tatanka Spirit has officially found its home and will soon be making its way from Santa Fe to a new collection in Miami.

Standing nearly larger than life, Tatanka Spirit carries the unmistakable energy of Ray’s work. Brilliant turquoise, gold, crimson, and violet build across the subject in layers of color and texture, while that expansive field of green gives him room to stand with an almost monumental presence.

There is something wonderfully fitting about seeing a painting with this much spirit begin a journey of its own. From the Southwest to the shores of Miami, a little piece of Ray’s vivid vision of the West goes with it.

We’re always a little bittersweet watching a painting leave the gallery, but there is nothing quite like seeing a work of art find the person and place it was meant for.

And lately, Ray Tigerman’s paintings have been finding those places rather quickly. With Tatanka Spirit now spoken for, the collection on our walls grows a little smaller.

Strength in Stillness

There is a quiet authority to Brave Reborn.

Kathy Piccione builds the portrait through color that refuses to recede. Cobalt and turquoise move across the face against passages of crimson, ochre, and gold, bringing extraordinary dimension to the subject’s strong profile. Against the deep blue surrounding him, every carefully rendered detail seems to intensify.

Yet for all its visual power, the painting never feels loud.

There is dignity in the stillness of his expression and a sense of resolve in the way Piccione has captured his features. The feathers rise above him, strands of hair fall into a long braid, and a brilliant turquoise pendant rests at his chest. Santa Fe State of Mind

Some attitudes never go out of style.

Tony Thielen’s Unfiltered has plenty of its own. Beneath that impossible red hat, a cigarette curls into the turquoise sky while saturated reds, pinks, golds, and violets turn a familiar Western archetype into something unmistakably Tony: confident, irreverent, and effortlessly cool.

And with Fiestas filling the streets of Santa Fe this weekend, it feels only right to give a little extra love to one of our own. A Santa Fe native, Tony brings the color, character, and independent spirit of the city into his work without ever losing his playful edge.

Unfiltered is bold enough to command a room and has just enough mischief to keep you looking.

Only a few of Tony’s paintings are currently hanging on our walls, and as we’ve learned, they don’t tend to stay long.
