Against a Bright Blue Sky (48 x72) has been an absolute show stopper for Douglas Aagard. It is perfectly placed on the back wall of the gallery and sets the tone for the entire show! That blue sky is a vibe all onto itself.
The angles and symmetry in this fox by John Maisano are just so perfectly created. John is a master of design and he brings an aesthetic sense to his works in bronze unlike many other artists working in the medium. This is titled Roxy and it's available this Friday, as the reception will be from 5-7pm.
Gilded Structures--new work by Alvin Gil-Tapia opens October 4 and runs through October 13 at Manitou Gallery on Palace Avenue.
Alvin Gill-Tapia is a renowned artist who paints hallowed places and sacred spaces in his home state of New Mexico. His connection to the land runs deep, as eight generations of his family have lived and worked in this enchanting landscape. Through his paintings, Gill-Tapia pays tribute to the natural beauty and historical significance of the Southwest. This body of work pays homage to the man-made structures that dot the New Mexico horizon, many of which were built by his own ancestors. From traditional adobe homes to century-old churches, these structures are a testament to the rich history and cultural heritage of the Southwest. Through his meticulous brushstrokes and vibrant use of color, Gill-Tapia captures the essence of these buildings and preserves their legacy for future generations.
Impressionist leanings from PJ Garoutte. This one is titled Front Gate (12 x 12) and it is available now at Manitou Galleries
This is literally a little jewel. Those living in Northern New Mexico know that there is nothing sentimental at all about this painting! Our seasons really look like this! This scene has played out countless numbers of times over the last few hundred years. Somethings just never change. This is Don Brackett and it's titled Golden Light, 20x 16"
Here's another from Douglas Aagard that will be in his exhibition opening Friday September 13 at Manitou Galleries in Santa Fe. There is something about Doug's color that really stands out to our collectors. This may come from his early beginnings as a watercolorist. Aagard switched to oils nearly twenty-five years ago after seeing an exhibition of oil paintings by fellow Utah-based artist Gary Ernest Smith. This painting is titled Rising Mist and it is 48 x 60."
We just received some new works by Trevor Swanson in the gallery. This one is titled Feathers of Moonlight. Trevor is experimenting with different surfaces and this is oil and patina on metal. You can see some of the metal coming through in the background and it creates a wonderful effect. ...
You may have seen this handsome duo in our gallery earlier this Spring. Needless to say, they were great watchdogs and brought so many people into the gallery to admire their beautiful qualities. This piece, titled Helios and Luna is by John Maisano and is available in our John Maisano/Douglas Agaard exhibition which opens Friday September 13 from 5 to 7pm. Stop by and see all the new pieces that these two artists will be debuting at the gallery.
Sushi Felix never ceases to amaze us. Her new work includes starry skies and clouds coming over the mountains tops much like they do here in Santa Fe during the summer months. This new work is titled Star Studded Wonders and it's a 36 x 36." It's one of several new works we just received from Susie.
We all know and love Ethelinda's famous paintings of horses but did you know she's a wonderful painter of still life as well This is brand new to the gallery and it's titled Onions. It's quite large as well, at 30 x 48".
This is John Maisano's Polar Bear, 14 x 7 x 9", Bronze, Edition of 40, new for our show that opens September 13 from 5 to 7 pm. Maisano has been creating work for over 25 years now. His animal series is inspired by both Art Noveau and Art Deco, which he feels is the high point of design. He tries t capture the spirit of each animal with clean shapes accented by intricate designs. Some tend toward the whimsical while others are elegant in style.
Our Next exhibition is for painter Douglas Aagard and sculptor John Maisano and is happening Friday September 13.
Douglas Aagard and John Maisano are two artists who see the world in a different light. With their unique styles, they bring to life emotions and spirits that often go unnoticed. Their work is a celebration of nature and its intricate relationship with color. Through their unique styles and techniques, this collection of artwork will showcase the endless possibilities of art as a medium for expressing the wonders of nature and it’s many creatures.
We know this won't last long! A new painting by James Randle just arrived in the gallery. This one is titled Quiet and Comfortable (Los Ranchos de Albuquerque) and it's a 30 x 24." Look at that New Mexico sky!

Sitting Bear, Arikara, oil on canvas, 48 x 60." This is another new painting by David Frederick Riley. David will be joining us tonight for his opening from 5-7 pm! Riley's focus is on Wildlife, Western and Portrait painting and this show will feature works from all of these genres, providing a comprehensive view of Riley's artistic journey.
TONIGHT!!!! Mateo Romero, The Land of Light and Shadows opens with a reception from 5-7pm.
Mateo Romero's paintings reflect a pattern of evolution and change. The artist himself has acknowledged that his work is constantly evolving, with each painting building upon the previous one. This is evident in the way he juxtaposes traditional elements of Pueblo culture with contemporary abstract expressionist techniques. By blending old and new, Romero creates a sense of timelessness in his paintings. It is this combination of ancient and modern, stillness and movement, that makes Romero's paintings truly unique and captivating. By continuously pushing the boundaries and incorporating various influences into his work, he has created a body of paintings that not only reflect the richness of Pueblo culture but also speaks to the constant growth and transformation of humanity as a whole. His work not only celebrates the beauty and complexity of Pueblo culture but also invites us to explore and embrace the endless possibilities of growth and transformation in our own lives.
Pictured here is Th'aawi' #2, 30 x 40, oil

Many of our staff members went on a field trip yesterday to the studio of Jim and Christen Vogel up in Dixon, New Mexico. Jim is now proudly represented by Manitou/Legacy and we couldn't be happier to have him on the team! Jim and Christen are consummate story tellers and this comes through the work so vividly.
David Riley has created some absolutely beautiful paintings for us over the years. Milan Hansen Buck, 50 x 40" may be one of the best we've ever seen. Look how David captures the delicate expression on this bucks face so tenderly and emotively. Many artists can paint. Only few can capture this emotional depth. David is our Friday evening show during the Santa Fe Indian Market. It will take place Friday, August 16 from 5 to 7pm. Hope to see you there!

🖼️ Moby by Aaron Hazel (detail)
This is a very special John Nieto painting that is part of Scottsdale Art Auction’s August 3 sale. First of all, John has given us a starry night sky that goes from a deep blue all the way up to an almost black dark sky. Also, the designs on figures body relate to different aspects of the cosmos and the peace pipe he holds ties in his communion with the land and sky and fellow humans. It it titled Prayer (40 x 30) and we've estimated it at $15,000-$25,000.
