Justin Wood, a painter from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, earned his BFA in Illustration from Syracuse University in 2005. Shortly after, he moved to New York to study under Jacob Collins at the Water Street Atelier, where he trained full time for five years and worked as Collins’ studio assistant.
Following his apprenticeship, Wood began teaching cast drawing and painting at Grand Central Atelier. His still life paintings reflect a deep engagement with classical technique, drawing inspiration from 17th-century Dutch masters like Pieter Claesz and Jan Davidsz de Heem.
Working directly from life, he arranges simple objects, such as fruit, bowls, and folded cloth, into quiet compositions that reward concentrated observation.
