William C. Hook, “Yellow and Blue”
Join us this Friday from 4–6 pm for the opening reception of William C. Hook: “Yellow and Blue,” a new collection of landscape and abstract paintings at Meyer Gallery.

Hook’s connection to New Mexico goes back to his student days at the University of New Mexico, where he first began painting the pueblos and villages of the Rio Grande valley. More than five decades later, he remains one of the Southwest’s most recognized colorists, known for his broad, confident brushwork and his eye for the light of the high desert.

This exhibition brings together his signature landscapes, adobe walls, turquoise doorways, cottonwoods along the acequia, alongside a small group of new abstract works exploring line and form.
Meyer Gallery has proudly represented William C. Hook for more than 35 years and 30 solo exhibitions.

Milt Kobayashi, “Velvet Silence” July 24 - August 6

Milt Kobayashi’s newest paintings place solitary figures and quiet encounters within rooms charged by color. Pattern moves through the work in clothing, upholstery, tabletops, and fields of repeated form, giving each composition its rhythm while gesture and broad passages of paint suggest private narratives just beyond reach.

Milt Kobayashi’s figures occupy a world of lowered eyes, unfinished conversations, and color pushed to its emotional limit. Black, coral, violet, ochre, and green move freely through the paintings, shaping the atmosphere as much as the people within it.

Milt Kobayashi’s Velvet Silence considers the private life of the figure through gesture, pattern, and saturated color. His subjects sit, recline, and turn toward one another, though their thoughts remain withheld. Broad passages of paint give each room its emotional charge, while the smallest objects become part of the narrative. These recent works find Kobayashi moving deeper into the visual language he has developed over decades.
