"LA PASIONARIA," Emma Tenayuca's nickname given by the workers due to her solidarity with San Antonio’s working poor.

She is currently featured in the Museo del Westside due to the important role Tenayuca played during the Texas labor movements in the 1930s. If you want to learn more about Emma Tenayuca and other labor activists, come visit the Museo del Westside!

One of our exhibits in the Museo del Westside, “Artistas de las Americas,” honors many amazing performers from the Westside. One of the featured artists is ranchera singer Beatriz Llamas! 🩷🎶

Inside our Museo del Westside we have an exhibit that focuses on the work that Women in the Westside have contributed throughout the 1900s - 1960s — one of the exhibits being about Las Parteras. 👩🏽‍⚕️🍃

San Antonio’s Westside has a rich history of women musicians! The Museo del Westside features many artistas that grew up in the Westside that went on to be great performers!

This year, our Paseo por el Westside also features amazing artists that have been recognized as National Heritage Fellows!

Paseo por el Westside was created to celebrate and preserve San Antonio’s Westside. Through workshops and demonstrations, we hope to showcase the history and culture of the community! ☀️

And now with the Museo del Westside, there are more ways to explore the Westside’s rich history. Here is a sneak preview of some of the labor activists featured in the Museo del Westside as well as workshops going on during Paseo!

Parteras were an important contributor to maintaining the health of San Antonio’s Westside community.

As part of our Paseo por el Westside, the Museo del Westside will be open. It features the history of several midwives, so come by this Saturday from 9AM-3PM to learn more! There will also be a workshop, “Parteras, Comadronas, Birthworkers y Más” from 10AM-11AM providing the opportunity to learn from current practitioners!
