This week the Presnall - Watson House closes one chapter and starts a new one! There agreement many thank you’s to pass out…A big thank you to everyone who came and supported Land Heritage Institute this past month by touring the PW House.. Also a big thank you to Kevin, Elena and the Trailmasters. Your help allowed me the time to devote time to getting the PW House repaired and ready for our new caretaker family to occupy. Please welcome the Biediger family as the settle into their new digs and new role as LHI caretakers. Please enjoy the photos taken by Pattie VanWinkle, they are beautiful and really capture the feeling of the house.

Presnall -Watson Homestead was happy to host the San Antonio Conservation Societies Farm and Ranch Committee this Past Saturday. We toured the house and grounds. A presentation was made regarding the house history and the tale of the two pioneer families that built the house. The Presnall - Watson House will be open the last two Saturdays during the month of May and then the use will shift to a full time residence for a caretaker family.

Here are a few extra pictures and notes. After 15 years of off and on repairs and rehabilitation, the old lady is finished! With snazzy new bathrooms and kitchen, a safe stairway, the Presnall-Watson House will become our new caretakers residence. Watson family artifacts are displayed for the Open House and will be archived again once the Open House ends at the end of May. In June, our caretaker family moves in and the PW starts a new phase of life in its third century of existence. Come hear the stories and see some of our very interesting objects. The Watson Barnyard will also be open. $5 per person, $15 per family/carload.

Presnall - Watson House @ Land Heritage Institute

Every Saturday in May from 10 am to 2 pm. Short Presentation at 11 am. Open days May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30.
$5 per person, $15 per carload

The Presnall - Watson House is on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the 121 acre Presnall Watson Historic District which includes the Watson Barns, the Walsh Barn and the Richard Beene Archeological site. The 176 year old Presnall Watson House has been fully repaired and rehabilitated to be used as a caretakers residence for Land Heritage Institute starting in June 2026.

ATTENTION HORSE OWNERS!

Horse Clinic at Land Heritage Institute
Saturday, April 11, 2026
9am - Noon 1pm - 4 pm

Hansen Horses is a complete training facility located in Natalia, Texas. Mike Hansen is a friend and has been training and working with problem horses since 1972. After visiting with Mike about what the Land Heritage Institute does and the number of horseback riders and enthusiasts ride at LHI regularly, we came up with the idea for this clinic. Mike thought that horse owners might be interested in hearing from and learning about Hansen Horses. We will be using our facilities to address any behaviors your horse might have that is a problem. Mike has handled literally 100’s of problem horses over the years, so we’ve probably see your problem before and have developed a solution for it.

As an introduction, a nominal fee of $35 per Horse will be charged to help with expenses. Horses will be taken in the order of sign up. If you have two problem horses, sign up twice. We are going to address as many as possible without leaving anyone out. No charge for spectators. BYO lunch and drinks. We will start at 9 am with a lunch break from Noon to 1 and will be ending at 4 pm.

Please sign up at Headquarters of LHI on notebook provided. Fee is due the day of clinic. (We are expecting around 15 horses and riders)

After a 15 year effort the Presnall Watson Historic Farmhouse has been totally repaired and rehabilitated! Thanks to the support of the Land Heritages Institute Board of Directors, the San Antonio Conservation Society, The Texas Historic Commission, Texas PreservationTrust and private donors, the house is ready to be occupied by a caretaker family who will live there in exchange for operational and maintenance work for LHI and on the PW House grounds and buildings. But before that happens, the Presnall Watson House and Barns will be open for viewing every Saturday in-the month of May from 10 am to 2 pm. There will be a short presentation at11 am giving the history of the house and Watson and Presnall families. The cost will be a $5 donation per person or $15 donation per family. The open house dates are:
