Behind Hemisfair are two nonprofit organizations with different roles and a shared commitment to creating a vibrant, welcoming place for San Antonio.

The Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation (HPARC) leads the redevelopment and management of the district, transforming this historic site, caring for its public spaces, and bringing free programming, events, and experiences to the community.

The Hemisfair Conservancy is the philanthropic arm of Hemisfair, supporting the mission through fundraising, partnerships, and resources that help strengthen the district for generations to come.

Together, these two organizations help create, care for, and sustain the Hemisfair District.

1960’s - hand drafting, slide ruler calculations and a city’s dream to host a World’s Fair built Tower of the Americas. Last Friday the city of San Antonio was hit with a heavy thunderstorm which included 60+ miles per hour winds.

Here is a video posted by a local meteorologist from inside the top house restaurant during the storm as it passed through the downtown area.

Made a special visit to The Tower of the Americas after work to see the newly installed photo mural in the ground level lobby for the restaurant.

About a year ago I was contacted by the interior designer commissioned for the project. Part of the lobby redesign included a photo mural concept and was invited to participate. The concept called for the mural to visually show the Tower and its part of the overall World’s Fair. Over the fall of 2025 we worked to narrow down the best images from the 1000+ images in my collection. Once the selections were made the next step was to redo the digitization of the materials into high resolution *.EPS files. By early 2026 I stepped back while the designer & her team finalized the layout and created the final result.

The installation was recently completed and is now open to the public to welcome visitors to the Tower and its Chart House restaurant.

It was a great privilege to participate in the renovation of the Tower of the Americas originally built as the theme structure and center piece of the 1968 World’s Fair - HemisFair 68’.
