Children under 12 years old are always FREE at the museum. Enjoy free general admission every Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m., courtesy of H-E-B, and the first Sunday of every month from Noon to 5 p.m., courtesy of the Dickson Allen Foundation. The McNay Art Museum engages a diverse community in the discovery and enjoyment of the

visual arts. Built in the 1920s by artist and educator Marion Koogler McNay, the Spanish Colonial Revival residence became the site of Texas’s first modern art museum when it opened in 1954. In June 2008, the museum opened the 45,000-square-foot Jane and Arthur Stieren Center for Exhibitions designed by internationally renowned French architect Jean-Paul Viguier. Today, 200,000 visitors a year enjoy works by modern masters including Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Edward Hopper, Joan Mitchell, Alice Neel, Georgia O’Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The 25 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds include sculptures by Willie Cole, Robert Indiana, Luis A. Jiménez Jr., Alejandro Martín, George Rickey, Joel Shapiro, Kiki Smith, Tom Wesselmann, and more.

We are saddened by the passing of Yayoi Kusama. Her polka dots, pumpkins, and mirrored infinity rooms reshaped how audiences everywhere experience contemporary art.

The McNay was honored to share her work with the San Antonio community, including her infinity room featured in “Limitless! Five Women Reshape Contemporary Art” in 2021. For many visitors, that room was their first step into her universe.

We are grateful to have been part of her story here, and her influence will continue to inspire artists and audiences alike.

🎨 🦒 The McNay’s Communications & Marketing Team held its annual retreat at San Antonio Zoo , which was filled with moments of inspiration, learning, and camaraderie.

With grazing giraffes and zebras as a backdrop, Spekboom Lodge offered us an inspiring atmosphere to get creative in our planning session, enjoy a delicious lunch together, and meet with the zoo’s PR and Marketing teams. We closed out our day with an after-hours guided tour of the zoo and captured countless moments of discovery.

Many thanks to the zoo’s Guest Experience Team and to the PR and Marketing Teams for their insights and ideas!

We’re thrilled to unveil a selection of paintings by San Antonio-based artist Cruz displayed alongside some of the McNay’s most treasured modern portraits.

Housed in the Zoch Gallery, which was part of Marion Koogler McNay’s residence, “Collection Conversations: Cruz Ortiz and the Modern Portrait” continues our longstanding tradition of bringing artworks from across different time periods into conversation.

From Cruz’s “La Rosie Castro” from Julián Castro 's collection to Diego Rivera’s “Delfina Flores” from Marion McNay’s original bequest, we invite you to explore portraiture and its evolution and experience our galleries that serve as San Antonio’s place of belonging.
