Sala Diaz

Sala Diaz Sala Diaz, a 501(c) 3 exhibition space, is an experimental venue for contemporary art established in 1995. Open by appointment.

Located in the heart of the Cultural Arts District, Sala Diaz provides a venue for the exhibition of new and challenging work and fosters lasting exchange between our city and creative communities abroad. Housed in the same residential structure as the gallery, The Casa Chuck Residency is an invitational program through which Sala Diaz provides critics, curators and writers a haven for varied crea

tive pursuits. Initiated in 2011, the residency honors the legacy of visionary artist, arts advocate, cultural maven and bon vivant Chuck Ramirez who died the previous year. Official residents spend one month living in Ramirez’ former abode, exploring and interacting with the surrounding arts community. Sala/Casa hosts a wide array of arts professionals in-between exhibitions and residencies including artists, critics, curators, filmmakers, musicians and scholars. http://saladiazart.org/

Join us tomorrow May 15, from 5–8pm for the opening of Ceci Goldstone's MFA thesis exhibition, "Family Mythologies."

"Family Mythologies questions the concept of memory through excavations of personal recollections and inherited information. Sifting through the stories of my youth, I search to shed light on the array of forces that have shaped me. Why do we recall some stories more than others? What remains concealed from childhood? I am looking for the psychological imprints that have been passed down as well as those that the psyche may have kept hidden." - Ceci Goldstone

Join Sala Diaz and Un Girto Gallery this Sunday, February 15, for a Front Yard Hangout with Un Grito's exhibiting artist, Heimo Wallner! Wallner has been staying at Sala Diaz while he's in town working on his solo exhibition at Un Grito, and we are happy to invite the community to Sala for a casual hangout with the artist.

Born in Tamsweg, Austria, Heimo Wallner attended the “Akademie der Bildenden Künste” in Vienna from 1981 – 88. He divides his time between Vermont, USA, where he teaches at Middlebury College and the University of Vermont and Scheifling, Austria, where he runs and curates the artists in residence program “hotelpupik”.
His work oscillates between wall drawings, drawing/animation and sculpture.

Wallner's solo exhibition, "desperado," will close at Un Grito on Thursday, February 19.
