Hi everyone,

Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our Holiday Open House. Since small children (the bulk of our guests at these shows) will not have been vaccinated by then, it is in everyone’s best interest to defer our shows until such time comes.

We also remain closed to the public on Wednesday nights.

We appreciate your understanding.

The BSMRM is looking forward to welcoming guests LATER this year. Currently we remain CLOSED to the general public but expect to welcome guests initially via an RSVP process soon.

Stay tuned but in the meantime we are working on the railroads and scenery as well as making further improvements to the Museum and our building. We have installed a new modern bathroom and are contracted to install a new roof on the building this Summer.

Unless conditions change we are expecting to host our traditional Holiday show this Fall in addition to a scale modelers meet.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of one of our long time members, Bill Rynders. Bill joined our N Scale group about 15 years ago, and was as if he was always a part of our family. Whether it was serving on the board of directors as Director of Shows and leading the way for people to come and enjoy our layouts, or helping lead projects from our new club ceiling and LED lighting, to modernizing the N Scale Layout to DCC. Bill was often seen running his favorite Beer train or Milwaukee Road Hiawatha over our layout. But what we'll miss the most about Bill was his warm, funny, and creative spirit. We miss our friend deeply. Thanks for the memories Bill, and rest in peace.

Thank you all for stopping by our page and more often then not, offering kind words of encouragement. The N Scale guys have been operating on Monday nights. Of course, masks and staying six feet apart from one another is the order of the day! Below are just a few pix. NEXT Monday, we will go live and shoot some video. We hope you're all well and look forward to being able to have you all visit, very soon.

Hi everyone,

First of all thank you to everyone who came out to our open house last weekend. We had a great time showing off the layouts and we hope you enjoyed your time here.

Unfortunately, in light of the current Coronavirus events we have decided to close to the public effective immediately through at least the end of April. We will give further updates when we can.

The club will still be open to members so please stay tuned to this page for updates on everything happening with the layouts.

If you have any further questions please feel free to send us a private message.

Stay healthy!

Sincerely,

The BSMRM

Hey everyone! We’re looking forward to our annual spring open house this weekend! Due to concern over Covid-19, also known as the coronavirus, we’ll be taking some extra precautions this weekend. For starters, if any member of your party is feeling under the weather, has a fever, cough, or any flu like or covid-19 symptoms, we ask that you please plan on visiting the museum at a later date and refrain from attending this weekend. We’ll also be allowing a smaller number of guests in at a time to limit any close quarters that come with higher numbers. As the busiest times tend to be the first two hours, we do urge guests consider coming later in the day as an option. We’ll have hand sanitizers at the ready, and will be frequently sanitizing door handles at the entries. We hope that these steps ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all of our guests. Thanks!

Trolleys live on the HO scale layout!

For many, MANY years the trolley line running through the city of Sacramento on the HO scale layout has been out of service. Recently, members have undertaken a project to get it up and running and just in time for the open house they have done it! For now it’s just a simple loop but more details and buildings will follow. Many thanks to the O Scale trolley guys for their efforts!

Not every project is something that visitors will see but that doesn’t mean it is any less important.

Recently the HO layout has begun a project to redo the switches leading into the hidden staging yard on the east end known as Scranton. These switches were unreliable and caused numerous derailments in a very difficult to reach area. Doing this project has required ripping out a length of scenery to access the tracks. It looks ugly but it will be worth it in the end.

This project will be done by our March open house and though you will never know the difference we certainly will!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our holiday open house this past weekend! We hope you enjoyed seeing the layouts and trains and all of our hard work over the past year.

Please mark your calendars for the first weekend of March (3/7 and 3/8) for our spring open house. We hope to see you then!

Last night the HO layout held what model railroaders call an “operating session”. Unlike our open houses where we just run a lot of trains for the pleasure of the public, at operating sessions we operate the layout like a real railroad. Trains run on a schedule and have orders to pick up and drop off cars at various industries along the layout. In recent years we have added radios so operators can communicate with each other and the dispatcher who is in charge of all movements. The dispatcher also has a computer he uses to control all the switches (and soon signals) which is exactly what the real railroads do.

We know that Thanksgiving is this week, so excuse us for jumping ahead, but if you're starting to plan a time to visit with a very special bearded, jolly fella who likes milk & cookies, we've heard a few rumors about visits to Roslindale that he's planning! First up is our 35th Annual Roslindale Tree Lighting & Small Business Saturday event happening this Saturday, November 30th in Adams park from 3:00-5:00pm. Santa will be arriving on the Ladder 16 Fire Truck and taking photos with his young fans throughout the event. After that, you can catch Santa while he's visiting East Boston Savings Bank in Roslindale on Thursday, December 5th from 3:00-7:00pm during our 2019 RVMS Holiday Market on Birch Street for photos and hot cocoa! Then, the following weekend on Sunday, December 8th, Santa will be inside YMAA Boston at 12:00pm, during the second day of Bay State Model Railroad Museum's Holiday Open House event. YMAA will have some fun activities for visitors and next door, Birch St. House & Garden will be offering a FREE Christmas train with any purchase of $40 or more! #ROSlove
