Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse

Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse visitors can climb to the top of the forty-foot high lighthouse, completed in 1822 on a bluff overlooking the Genesee River’s flow into Lake Ontario, and hear the story of our urban pioneers who depended upon the lighthouse and its keepers to safely guide their boats into and out of the developing wilderness. After your climb, visit the 1863 Keeper’s Dwelling and stroll through exhibitions on the 19th and 20th century evolution of the lakeshore and riverfront from port to resort renowned as the “Coney Island of the West.”

Yes, we are finally going to OPEN the CHARLOTTE-GENESEE LIGHTHOUSES for Tours of the Keeper's House and Tower. We have missed the first 3 1/2 months this year but starting Friday, July 17, 2020, the Lighthouse will be open weekends from 1 - 5 pm Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays.

We are very concerned about the safety of our visitors and volunteers. So we have developed many new regulations and before you come down please read the NOTICE below. Everyone will wear a Mask inside the Keeper's House and Tower. In the Tower, you will need to wear plastic gloves that we will provide to you. We are limiting the number of people that can be in the House and Tower at one time. This may create lines outside and it is recommended that if you have 5 or more people please call ahead. We highly recommend you wear the Mask outside on the grounds and keep a safe distance from people outside of your own group. We want to make this an enjoyable and safe visit for you and your family and friends. For more information or questions please call us at 585.621.6179, email us at [email protected] or visit our WEB page at www.geneseelighthouse.org .

INTERNATIONAL LIGHTHOUSE LIGHTSHIP WEEKEND
(A HAM RADIO EXPERIENCE)

RARA (Rochester Amateur Radio Association

At the Charlotte Genesee Lighthouse
70 Lighthouse St.
Rochester, NY 14612

The basic objective of the event is to promote public awareness of lighthouses and lightships and their need for preservation and restoration, and at the same time to promote amateur radio and to foster International goodwill. Lighthouses are fast becoming an endangered species with the introduction of Global Positioning Systems and Satellite Navigation and the automation of the light source to solar power which has resulted in the withdrawal of management personnel (Keepers). It is hoped that this event will highlight this situation and help prevent further desecration of these magnificent structures all around the world.

They elected Fred Amato, President, Jack Kemp, Vice-President and Kathleen Connor as Secretary. Mike May, Mark Cassetti and Sandy Pinkney were elected Trustees each for 3-year terms.
