Opening September 24, “Remain Present” features a collection of works by American artist Nicholas Roes.

The exhibition considers gesture as evidence of the artist’s presence. Each work carries traces of its making through movement, texture, and the accumulation of material. Marks, layers, and surfaces become records of time, attention, and physical engagement.

American Artist Appreciation Month | Edward Hopper

Edward Hopper remains one of the most recognizable voices in American art.
Through quiet interiors, empty streets, coastal houses, and figures caught in moments of stillness, Hopper captured a distinctly modern sense of American life. His paintings are not simply scenes of place, but studies of light, distance, and psychological atmosphere.

Works such as Nighthawks, Automat, and his Cape Cod paintings continue to resonate because they hold both familiarity and unease. Hopper understood how architecture, shadow, and silence could become emotional subjects.

Opening at the end of August, CHART Art Fair returns to Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen from August 27–30, 2026.

Recognized as a leading platform for Nordic contemporary art, CHART brings together prominent galleries, artists, collectors, and art professionals within one of Copenhagen’s most historic cultural settings. The fair extends beyond the traditional gallery format, with public programming, books and prints, and a site-specific sculpture exhibition at Tivoli Gardens.

On view in Stride and Gesture, David Noalia’s work moves between refinement and expressive energy.

While known for his dynamic equestrian subjects, Noalia also brings the same sense of movement and immediacy to floral compositions. In this painting, color appears to bloom outward from the center—layered, gestural, and alive with motion. Bright pinks, greens, reds, and blues emerge against a quiet gray ground, creating a balance between elegance and spontaneity.

The result is a work that feels both delicate and forceful, capturing the natural world not as something still, but as something constantly unfolding.

Closing at the end of August, “Beyond the Streets” at the Grande Halle de La Villette in Paris brings together one of the most ambitious presentations of street art and urban culture to date.

On view from May 27 through August 30, 2026, the exhibition features more than 120 artists from 30 countries, with monumental murals, site-specific works, and installations created for the historic Paris venue.

After presentations in London and New York, the exhibition’s arrival in Paris reflects the continued recognition of artistic movements that began outside traditional institutions. Street art, graffiti, and urban visual culture are now understood not only as acts of expression, but as fields with their own histories, materials, communities, and cultural influence.

For collectors and viewers, exhibitions like this offer important context. They show how movements once considered marginal can become central to the broader story of contemporary art.

Ellsworth Kelly helped redefine American abstraction through color, shape, edge, and scale.

Working across painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and collage, Kelly reduced visual experience to its most essential forms. His work often appears simple at first, but that clarity comes from careful observation—of architecture, shadows, plants, fragments of landscape, and the visual patterns of daily life.

In works such as Spectrum Colors Arranged by Chance, Kelly explored how color could function independently from image or narrative. By using chance to determine placement, he shifted attention toward structure, perception, and the physical act of looking.

During American Artist Appreciation Month, Kelly’s work reminds us that American art has often advanced through restraint, precision, and a willingness to see the ordinary world in entirely new terms.

Born on August 5, 1920, George Tooker became one of the most distinctive American painters of the 20th century.

Working in egg tempera, Tooker created carefully structured scenes that often explored isolation, bureaucracy, identity, and the quiet tension of modern life. His figures are still, precise, and deeply psychological, giving his paintings a sense of suspended time.

Though sometimes associated with Magic Realism, Tooker’s work resists easy categorization. His paintings combine technical refinement with social observation, offering a vision of American experience that is both intimate and unsettling.

During American Artist Appreciation Month, Tooker’s work reminds us that American art is not defined by one style or movement, but by the many ways artists have examined the world around them.
