Photos of Rudolph's apartment at 31 High Street in New Haven, Connecticut taken roughly 30 years apart in 1963, 1992 and 2023. The first by Yuji Noga when Rudolph lived there, the second by Robert Schwartz when he lived there after Rudolph, and finally by the Institute when we visited after it was converted to a Fraternity House and vacated.

Drawings and model for the unbuilt Electronic Data Systems project in Plano, Texas designed by Paul Rudolph in 1980. Electronic Data Systems (EDS) was founded in 1962 by H. Ross Perot who was directly involved with the project’s planning and design.

Construction photos of the Natural Sciences Building at SUNY Purchase in Purchase, New York designed by Paul Rudolph in 1969. In order to meet the architectural requirements and the mechanical-electrical systems, all steel framing was eliminated in one direction of the building. Through the use of long span metal deck with concrete topping, it allowed the mechanical systems to run transversely across the building without being impeded.

The Petrucelli residence in Bridgehampton, NY designed by Myron Goldfinger in 1969. The project site is a stretch of beach that has only two houses on it at the time, both by Charles Gwathmey - the John Steel Residence, aka Steel Residence I and the Arthur/Ruth Steel Residence, aka Steel Residence II. At the time this house is constructed the property was used as potato fields.

Before Paul Rudolph bought 23 Beekman Place in New York City and added his famed quadruplex penthouse on top, Rudolph rented a 800 s.f. one bedroom apartment on the fourth floor in 1961. He stayed there on the weekends and occasionally used it as a workspace.

In 1965 Rudolph moved from his apartment at 31 High Street in New Haven Connecticut, making 23 Beekman Place his full-time residence. He lived there until his death in 1997. These are photos of the apartment as it looked circa 1965-1967.

In the Sunday, July 23, 1967 issue of the New York Times Magazine, reporter Barbara Plumb wrote, “This one-bedroom apartment may be small, but its influence is likely to be huge because the architect, Paul Rudolph, former chairman of the School of Architecture at Yale University, lives here.”
