Photo London Booth G01 Highlights — Joo Myung Duck

From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, Joo Myung Duck (b. 1940, Korean) created a series of aerial mountain views known as Lost Landscapes, rendered in deep, near-nocturnal tonal gradations despite being photographed in daylight. Echoing the words of Zhuang Zhou, “Gaining insight, one forgets words,” his work invites a mode of perception beyond visibility and logic. His sweeping vantage point holds beauty and rupture in delicate tension—the enduring division of the Korean peninsula, and the notion of a spiritual homeland.

Our Photo London highlights — Mikiko Hara

Over three decades, Mikiko Hara (b. 1967, Japanese) has developed a singular photographic language—intuitive, fleeting, and deeply attuned to the unnoticed. Working without a viewfinder, she captures passing encounters and quiet domestic moments with a sensitivity that resists narrative closure. Her images unfold slowly, revealing a delicate balance of distance, humor, and tenderness. Her work is included in the international touring exhibition organized in conjunction with the landmark 2024 Aperture publication I’m So Happy You Are Here.

On view at our Photo London both G01 is Japanese artist Hitoshi Fugo’s fragile transformation of a half-burnt, human-sized paper roll, salvaged from a factory fire. Witnessing the devastation of the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake deepened his engagement with impermanence and the quiet power of materials. His work evokes awe and reflection, inviting us to witness the poetic life cycle of matter and memory.

From 1965 to 1983, American artist Melissa Shook (1939-2020) photo-documented a shared life with her daughter, Krissy. These tender double-portraits, taken in 1973 in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and Nova Scotia, are on view at our Photo London booth G01. The newly released documentary film about them will be screened daily at the fair, followed by Krissy, Kristina Shook’s booth talk.
