In this Berkshires residence, the architecture defines where public space ends and private space begins. Two organic surfaces pull apart to open the living and dining areas, then slowly taper back together to form the more private hallway to the bedrooms. Beneath the suspended loft, the space settles into a sunken, semi-private seating area.

A work of art can have many lives, each shaped by the space it enters. Pierre Huyghe’s Atari artwork has previously been displayed in lower-scaled gallery spaces. At One Liberty Plaza, it has room to breathe, and it can be read at the scale of the city from the plaza outside. Its gridded, modernist character sits comfortably within SOM’s building, echoing the rhythm of the windows and facade.

TM’s lighting forms an illuminated boundary around the piece. Light adheres to the wood-paneled walls and marble core, then falls slightly dimmer toward the center of the lobby so the artwork can be perceived on its own.

In this Tribeca loft, TM designed the lighting as a pairing with the existing architecture, working to enhance its industrial character of exposed brick, timber beams, and steel columns. Fixtures are nested between the preserved wooden joists, tracing the rhythm of the timber ceiling and deepening the texture of the brick. Calibrated fixtures graze each surface to amplify material contrast, while targeted light brings focus to art and furnishings. Zones are defined without visual clutter, and the main living room moves from day to evening with fluidity.

TM has once again collaborated with U-Haul Gallery, the roving exhibition that challenges the idea that art belongs only inside formal institutions, for its return to the 2026 U-Haul Art Fair. Lighting a gallery that moves calls for a system as adaptable as the work it serves, and TM’s lighting was custom-fit to the interior of each truck and calibrated with the artwork in mind.

Conceived for discretion, the system balances distribution and adaptability, allowing the light to shift with each installation as the gallery travels from city streets to art fairs. It sharpens visibility while keeping the art as the primary focus.

Originally designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in the early 1970s, One Liberty Plaza’s lobby was reimagined to meet a new generation of office tenants. Lighting became central to that transformation.

Wood walls on either side and a stone wall behind carry the lighting. Together, they form the major ambient light source in the space. The technical difficulty lay in achieving an even wash of light across such expansive surfaces, calibrated with enough precision that the fixture itself disappears entirely from perception upon entry. It’s TM’s ethos: embedding the lighting into the DNA of the architecture so that it’s one and the same.

Above, a Pierre Huyghe ceiling-mounted grid of lights takes on a checkerboard aesthetic, animated and playable at architectural scale. Paddles rest on a coffee table below, inviting anyone who notices them to stop and play.

Scaffolding is typically an afterthought, a screen meant only to keep a city block moving safely around construction. At ’s Fifth Avenue flagship, TM saw it as an opportunity for lighting instead. By day, it reads as a flat, graphic surface. By night, it dissolves into something dimensional and dynamic, visible from blocks down the avenue. Prada’s brand is built on understatement, and the design carries that same elegance while giving the neighborhood a genuine discovery.

Peel House is a residential addition built for an elderly family member returning home, its exterior surfaces unwrapping to embrace the existing house while giving the new space its own clear identity. Stacked cedar members stitch together across the facade, alternating between opaque and partially transparent zones at windows and doors, admitting shade, privacy, ventilation, and a physical connection to the surrounding landscape.

An alternating A-B surface system organizes the cedar linework, with digitally fabricated vertical teeth inserted at intervals to keep the overlapping members aligned and allow for natural expansion and contraction. Inside, bamboo and Ipe wood define the primary living space, while slate and corten steel ground the private bathroom.

Lighting at Thaden School was approached with architectural empathy; every decision made in response to the form and material logic already present. TM worked in close collaboration with MARLON BLACKWELL ARCHITECTS to ensure the lighting honored the campus’s hierarchy and intent from the outset.

Based on Arkansas’s rural vernacular, the campus reinterprets materials like sheet metal, plywood, and wood ceilings through a warm, indirect lighting strategy built to enhance texture and support a calm, focused learning environment. Light emerges through deliberate details, tucked into ledges, joints, and custom millwork, letting each building carry its own material language without interruption.

At ’s Meatpacking District flagship, TM treated light as a manifestation of architectural materiality, present in the space as an object in its own right. In the VIP room, tubular fixtures descend from the ceiling plane in a deliberate topography, designed to register as objects in the space. Ambient light catches the surrounding mirrored surfaces, sparking a bright, metallic glow that plays against the room’s chrome-toned architecture. It stands among TM’s most exuberant retail projects, lighting forward and fully present in the architectural dialogue.

Excited to share that TM co-founder B. Alex Miller has been featured in
Modern Luxury, marking a conversation on his path through Miami’s luxury fashion scene. Miller traces a practice built between Manhattan and South Beach, shaped early by relationships in Paris and New York that grew into flagship work across the Design District.

His instinct for light traces back further than any one flagship. Whether in a Renaissance painting, a restaurant, or Saarinen’s chapel at MIT, Miller has spent a career noticing what light does to a room before he starts designing one.
