A CITY OF NATURAL INSTINCTS, RENDERED IN COLOR.

Natural Instincts, a solo exhibition by Jeena Raghavan, opens October 22 at Saphira Ventura Gallery in New York.

Over three years of living and painting in Manhattan, Raghavan turned the city into a jungle of her own. Ambition, desire and cunning move through her canvases beside quieter things: tenderness, solitude, the ache of finding one’s place. Animals, figures, flowers and trees become a private language, each painting a journal entry of New York life.

Her brushwork carries the city’s rush and density. Her palette remembers India, the luminous saris and patterned textiles worn by her mother and grandmother. Between abstraction and figuration, two worlds meet, and we see how much of the wild still lives within us.

Join us for an evening with the artist.

Earth Film Festival Recap!

Swipe through to relive some of our moments — the faces, the films, the connections made in this space over the past week. 🎞️

And of course, we couldn’t let this moment pass without celebrating the films that moved us most. Out of more than 200 submissions, three rose to the top:

🥇 First Place — Kopenawa: Sonhar a Terra-Floresta, directed by Marco Altberg and Tainá de Luccas
🥈 Second Place — Amazônia Vermelha, directed by Felipe de Brêtas, written by Priscila Guedes
🥉 Third Place — Expedição Araguaia, directed by Thais Oliveira and Mariana Telles

Congratulations to all three. And to every filmmaker, artist, and storyteller who submitted, attended, or simply showed up with an open heart this week — thank you.

A special thank you to Ana Fernandes, whose performance brought such soul to our opening night — a gift we won’t forget.

And to the extraordinary group of artists whose work filled our walls and gave this exhibition its heartbeat: Ali Saracoglu (Ali Saracoglu), Vilina Malka (Vilina Malka), Ipek Saracoglu (ipek), Máximo Cedrini, Musa Saracoglu (Musa Saraçoğlu), Aline Coutinho (Studio Aline Coutinho | arte têxtil contemporânea), Andrea Rosado (), and Cole Trumbull — each of you brought a distinct voice to the urgent conversation this festival was built around, and this celebration was beautiful because of it.

A further thank you to Vilina Malka, who also led our immersive workshop, Blue Lotus & Sound Alchemy — weaving sacred geometry, sound, and ceremony into an experience our community won’t soon forget.

If you create work that asks us to look closer at the world — we want to know you. Saphira Ventura Gallery is, and will always be, a home for artists unafraid to say something that matters. Our doors, and our next exhibitions, are open. 🤍

As co-founders of Earth Film Festival alongside the New York International Contemporary Art Society, we couldn’t be prouder of what this community built together — and we can’t wait to see where it goes next.

Last week, Saphira Ventura Gallery became a space for stillness, vibration and wonder. 🪷

As part of the Earth Film Festival during NY Climate Week, we had the honor of hosting Blue Lotus & Sound Alchemy, an immersive workshop created and led by our artist Vilina Malka Vilina Malka .

Surrounded by her luminous works, guests journeyed through sacred geometry, the ancient ritual of Blue Lotus tea, and the healing language of sound. Wisdom carried across centuries met color, vibration and creative expression, reminding us that art is not only something we look at, but something we can live.

Vilina, thank you for an evening that reached far beyond the walls of a gallery. You showed us a way of being: grounded, intentional, and beautifully artful. We left listening more closely, to ourselves, to each other, and to the Earth we are here to protect. 🌍

To everyone who joined us: thank you for arriving with open hearts.

THREE FILMS. ONE EARTH. A SEED PLANTED. 🌿

This past Thursday, during New York Climate Week, Saphira Ventura Gallery became a gathering place for the voices that keep the Earth’s story alive. Together we celebrated the Earth Film Festival Award Ceremony, an evening devoted to cinema as an act of care.

From more than 200 films received, only three could be named. It was not an easy choice. Each one reminded us why stories matter most when the planet is asking to be heard.

With deep admiration, we celebrate our winners:

🥇 First Place
Kopenawa: Sonhar a Terra-Floresta
Directed by Marco Altberg Marco Altberg and Tainá de Luccas Tainá De Luccas

A poetic portrait of Davi Kopenawa Yanomami, shaman and defender of the Amazon, reflecting on ancestral heritage, the invasion of Indigenous lands, and the future of humanity.

🥈 Second Place
Amazônia Vermelha
Directed by Felipe de Brêtas Felipe De Brêtas | Written by Priscila Guedes Priscila GUEDES
A sensory journey that gives voice to a forest in agony, where the Amazon whispers, burns, and resists.

🥉 Third Place
Expedição Araguaia
Directed by Thais Oliveira and Mariana Telles
Along the waters of the Araguaia River, science and traditional knowledge meet in a call to protect a living heritage.

Congratulations to all of the filmmakers. Your vision moves us, and it moves the conversation forward.

To every artist, guest, and friend who gathered with us: thank you for being part of this journey, and for helping plant a seed for a better future for our planet. 🌍🤍

SOME STORIES ARE TOLD IN WATER, NOT WORDS 🌍

Some art doesn’t fight the elements — it moves with them.

Floating Emotions floating emotions brings the ancient art of Ebru, Turkish paper marbling, to Earth Film Festival + Exhibition at Saphira Ventura Gallery — a family collective spanning three generations, where every piece begins the same way: pigment released onto water, shaped by hand, and lifted into permanence in a single, unrepeatable moment.

There is no undo. No second attempt. Only patience, breath, and the willingness to let water lead. In a festival built around the urgency of our planet, there may be no better metaphor — a reminder that the most powerful things are often the ones we can’t fully control, only listen to.

Come see what happens when three generations of one family let the water speak.

🌍 AN INVITATION TO THE VOICES SHAPING OUR PLANET’S STORY 🌍

Inside The New Yorker Hotel, through a door with no name — and no need for one — sits Saphira Ventura Gallery: a cultural home for the artists, thinkers, and storytellers redefining how the world sees itself. This Climate Week, we open our doors for a single, unrepeatable evening.

The Earth Film Festival Award Winners Night — September 24th — brings the world’s most urgent cinema to one of the most consequential stages for climate dialogue on earth. Born in Belém, at the heart of the Amazon during COP30, and carried through São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and the halls of Brazil’s National Congress, EFF has never simply been a film festival. It is a movement — a convergence of filmmakers, artists, and visionaries who believe a story, told with enough courage, can change how the world sees itself.

Now, for the first time, that movement arrives in New York — hosted by a gallery long devoted to the dialogue between art, culture, and the world stage.

An evening of rare distinction: award presentations, exclusive film trailers, and the first reveal of the festival’s next chapter — Earth Film Festival × UN Ocean Decade. Ch*****ne in hand, live music by Ana Fernandez drifting through the gallery, surrounded by the very people redefining how climate stories are told — directors, cinematographers, photographers, and visual artists from across the world. Curated by Alcinda Saphira, featuring the work of Ali Saracoglu, Ipek Saracoglu, Musa Saracoglu, Andrea Rosado, Vilina Malka, Alexandre Dantas, and Aline Coutinho.

This is not simply an opening night. It is a seat at the table where the future of climate storytelling is being written — and the table is small by design.

Space is strictly limited, and RSVP is required for entry. We invite you to reserve early. ✨
