A moment for the Dining Room ✨

The Pabst Mansion's Dining Room is designed in the Louis XV style featuring birch woodwork and numerous rose details which are believed to have been Mrs. Pabst's favorite flower. The Pabsts frequently hosted dinner parties in this room, and their original table and chairs are still on view today.

Family portraits in the Pabst Mansion 🖌✨🎨

These sister paintings are portraits of Mrs. Pabst's niece, Louise Schandein, and her son, Erik Heyl. Louise and Erik hang on opposite sides of the same wall, straddling the Pabsts' bedroom and Mrs. Pabst's Sitting Room. They were painted by German artist Hermann Michalowski (1860-1903). Interestingly, Michalowski also painted a pair of murals that hung outside Captain Pabst's office in the Pabst Brewery.

Tiffany Studios sighting! 💡🐚

Pictured here is the Formal Parlor of Gustave Pabst and Hilda Lemp's Highland Boulevard mansion. If you look closely, there is a small lamp with a shell shade on the center table. This piece appears to be a "Nautilus" table lamp from Tiffany Studios with a real shell shade, gilt patinated bronze base, and iridescent glass cabochon jewels (pictured on slide 3). Like many Tiffany pieces, these lamps have held their value, with one piece selling for over $8,000 at auction in 2011. We don't know what happened to Gustave's original "Nautilus" lamp, but we love to expand our understanding of what the Pabsts used to decorate their homes and the companies that influenced their collecting habits.
