This Graduate Certificate Program stresses professional museum standards and ethics and proper care and interpretation of collections while providing the opportunity for the development of expertise and special skills. The program is designed to be practical and realistic.

Join the Wisconsin Historical Society for the 2026 Local History & Historic Preservation Conference, October 14–16, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee in downtown Milwaukee!

This year’s theme, “Doing History: Looking Forward from 250,” will bring together history and preservation professionals, volunteers, and advocates for:

• Hands-on workshops
• Wisconsin History Center updates
• Excursions and tours
• Networking events at America's Black Holocaust Museum and Pabst Mansion

We’re also thrilled to welcome keynote speakers John Dichtl, President & CEO of the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) and Emma Rudd, Executive Director of the Milwaukee Preservation Alliance, Inc.

Registration will begin in July.

Tim Bovard, the last full-time taxidermist at any museum in the U.S., has amassed an encyclopedic knowledge of the natural world. Since 1984, he has worked at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, where the care and keeping of animals and dioramas is a responsibility he takes seriously and joyfully. 🌎 A new exhibit is coming to the Milwaukee County Historical Society.

“We the People: Milwaukee Stories of Immigration, Citizenship, and Community” explores how generations of immigrants have shaped Milwaukee and the American story itself.

🗽Opening June 12, this timely exhibition invites visitors to reflect on identity, belonging, and what it means to be American as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026.

Discover powerful community stories, oral histories, and the lasting impact of immigration on Milwaukee’s neighborhoods, culture, food, and industries.

Todd Gray’s new exhibition “Portals” reframes Black diasporic history, enticing viewers to “look, find connections, and ask questions,” says writer David S. Rubin.

Featuring several multi-paneled photo assemblages, the exhibition explores “the evolution of Black history and identity through the juxtaposition of images related to slavery with views of European art, architecture, and formal gardens.”
