Hong Kong is raising the bar once again! Bar Leone has been named The World’s Best Bar 2026 at the 18th edition of The World’s 50 Best Bars awards, held in Milan on October 7, retaining the coveted No. 1 spot for the second year in a row!

Co-founded by Lorenzo Antinori and Justin Shun Wah, Bar Leone brings the spirit of traditional Roman neighbourhood bars to Hong Kong, serving up approachable cocktails, warm hospitality and a taste of la dolce vita.

Hong Kong’s vibrant cocktail scene is also represented by three other bars on this year’s list. Argo at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong returns at No. 25, while newcomers Montana and Gokan make their debuts at No. 36 and No. 41, respectively. Gokan’s founder, Shingo Gokan, also received the Roku Industry Icon Award. These accolades showcase Hong Kong’s creativity, world-class hospitality and international appeal, further cementing the city’s reputation as a global destination for food and drink. The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York (New York ETO) hosted a fireside discussion, “After the Summit: What’s Next for US–China Relations – A Conversation with Chow Chung-yan, Editor-in-Chief of South China Morning Post”, in collaboration with SCMP Plus, with the support of the Hong Kong Association of New York. Around 50 guests from different sectors attended the discussion.

In her opening remarks, Director of New York ETO Ms Maisie Ho highlighted the importance of strengthened communication, cooperation and stable economic and trade ties between China and the US.

Moderated by Mr James Heimowitz, Senior Advisor to SCMP, the conversation featured insightful perspectives from Chow Chung-yan on the evolving US–China relationship, as well as the opportunities and challenges ahead.

The discussion explored US–China economic interdependence, technology competition and domestic forces shaping the relationship, while highlighting the resilience of both countries and the need to look beyond binary narratives.

【World's freest economy✨】In the Economic Freedom of the World 2026 Annual Report released by the Fraser Institute today (October 6), Hong Kong continues to be rated as the world's freest economy. Among the five areas of assessment, Hong Kong again ranks first in "Freedom to trade internationally" and remains second globally in "Regulation".
The report once again affirms Hong Kong's strengths as a free-market economy and its open, efficient and fair business environment. Amid increasing global economic uncertainties and rising trade protectionism, Hong Kong remains firmly committed to maintaining its free port status, zero-tariff policy, and simple and low tax regime, providing a secure, stable, fair, predictable and internationalised business and investment environment for investors and entrepreneurs from around the world.
Looking ahead, the HKSAR Government will continue to further enhance Hong Kong's roles and functions as “four centres and one hub” and accelerate the development of the Northern Metropolis. These efforts will inject stronger impetus into social and economic development, open up broader development prospects for local enterprises and the public, and provide greater opportunities for enterprises, investors and talent worldwide.

Introducing the "Go Hong Kong" App!

The Immigration Department launched the “Go Hong Kong” mobile application, allowing eligible frequent visitors to enrol for the e-Channel service before arriving in Hong Kong. Eligible users must be aged 18 or above, hold a designated electronic travel document and have visited Hong Kong via Hong Kong International Airport at least twice in the preceding 24 months, among other requirements. Once enrolment is approved, visitors can activate and use the e-Channel service upon their next arrival in Hong Kong by the expected arrival date submitted in the application.

A remarkable Asian Games journey for Team Hong Kong! The 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya have come to a close, with Hong Kong, China athletes delivering outstanding performances across the pool, piste, court, track and water. From seasoned champions to rising stars, our athletes showcased determination, skill and fighting spirit throughout the Games, bringing home an impressive medal haul (11 Gold, 19 Silver, 24 Bronze) across a wide range of sports.
