Announcing! Step into the shadowed folklore of Italian artist Anna Chiara Stagi

Rooted in mythology, ritual, and the quiet terror of old-world forest stories, her work drifts between beauty and unease—where symbols feel ancient and the figures seem pulled from dreams you can’t quite escape. Her practice blends digital collage, traditional drawing, and printmaking into haunting, layered compositions.

We sat down with Anna to explore her upbringing among folklore, her inspirations, and the darkness that shapes her visual world.

Deep within the mountainous landscapes of Tuscany, artist Anna Chiara Stagi grew up surrounded by the legends and folklore of the Apuan Alps. These early encounters with traditional fairy tales, mysterious spirits, and the darker undertones of folklore continue to shape her haunting visual language....

"Moonlit landscape" beautiful work in the Symbolist tradition, drawing from Jean Delville’s metaphysical approach to nature — where landscape functions not as place, but as inner state.

Head of a Guillotined Man
🖤 Painted from life by Théodore Géricault (1818–19) This isn’t just a study in anatomy—it’s a confrontation with death itself. Géricault, obsessed with the raw truth of the body, sourced real corpses from the Paris morgue to capture decay in vivid detail. The Guillotine was the chosen form of ex*****on. Surrounded by the scent of death, he created a series, some may say a beautiful yet chilling collection of work.

Wolfgang Grässe (1930 - 2008) "Kingdom of Death" (one of our favorite Artists and painters here at ) was a modern figurative and fantastic realist painter. The Artist's most striking work combines the traditional masters such as; Bruegel, Bosch, Huys and Van Eyck with the violent narrative of our current world. Created with the concentration and detail of an Artist who survived the bombing of Dresden, the horrors of the World War and years in a Polish Gulag, Grässe painted a vision of realistic turmoil. You can read more about the Artist's journey from the excellent writings of here “We Must Accept The Ultimate Truths” The Paintings Of Wolfgang Grasse (1930 – 2008)"

"I love to draw with china ink pens and create all those insane and post-apocalyptic renderings dominated by the white/light - black/shadow contrasts. The Far Future and the Post-Apocalypse have always fascinated me more than anything else."

Albert Birkle (1900–1986) "Madness" — a master of the eerie and introspective. The Artists work traversed the haunting corners of Berlin’s Tiergarten Park, the gritty bar scenes of the Weimar Republic, with deeply expressive character portraits. Often compared to Otto Dix and George Grosz, Birkle’s style blends mysticism, social critique, and spiritual tension into unforgettable images.

Explore the lonely figures, surreal religious scenes, and haunted landscapes of this underappreciated visionary. Image albertbirkle.at
