For many visitors, one of the most memorable parts of a Kingston Penitentiary tour is hearing firsthand accounts from those who worked inside its walls.

🎙️ Meet Scott. With years of experience in corrections, Scott brings a unique perspective to the tour, sharing stories of daily life inside the institution, memorable moments from his career, and insights you won’t find in any history book.

His experiences help bring the penitentiary’s past to life, offering visitors a deeper understanding of what it was really like behind the walls.

Every tour ends in our gift shop. 🎁

While we have many different types of items available, books are a top seller! Some outline events that took place within the historic walls, or people that were housed here. Or some - such as Alias Grace - later saw filming take place at Kingston Pen for the tv series.

🔍 A unique look inside life behind the walls.

We’re always looking for ways to expand the tour experience, and this season, Private Family Visits has been added to our Extended Tours.

Private Family Visits (PFVs) are separate, two-bedroom residential-style units located within the institution’s secure perimeter. These spaces allowed eligible inmates to spend private time with family members in a more home-like setting and prepare for life outside the walls.

Guests on our Extended Tour can now step inside one of these units and gain insight into a lesser-known aspect of life at Kingston Penitentiary.
