Ever wondered how young Calgarians learn about Canadian military history and remembrance?

Launched in 2023 through a collaboration between Valour Canada and Field of Crosses, the annual Classroom at the Crosses program educates youth on Canada's military history, peacekeeping and service. The free, half-day program is coming back this Remembrance featuring three engaging components: an outdoor guided tour of the Field of Crosses (with hot chocolate!), an indoor classroom history module at the Calgary Curling Club, and hands-on military artifact handling in a heated tent.

While students and youth groups attend during the week, the public is invited to visit the Military Artifact Handling Tent on weekends! Bring your family and friends to say hi to our dedicated Valour Canada team and volunteers, who will be happy to answer your questions and assist you with handling of the military artifacts.

📍 Where: Look for the military green modular tent on the north side of the parking lot at the Field of Crosses (200 Memorial Dr NW, Calgary)
🗓️ Public Drop-In: 10 AM – 4 PM on Oct 31, Nov 1, Nov 7 and Nov 8

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation recognizes the tragic legacy of Canada’s residential school system, the children who never returned home, the families and communities left to grieve, and the survivors who continue to carry those memories.

We honour their stories, acknowledge the truth, and commit to listening, learning, and walking the path of reconciliation together.
