Happy birthday, Bruce Cockburn! 🎂

A member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, Cockburn is one of Canada's most beloved songwriters. To mark the occasion, we're revisiting a conversation with him from 2017, where he reflected on his creative process and how the best ideas show up when you least expect them.

🎵 Following a sold-out show at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, in February, award-winning Canadian artist Duane Forrest is back on June 28. This time, he’s bringing Tenderly: The Life and Times of Nat King Cole to our stage for Black Music Month.

This intimate jazz-theatre show will blend the timeless music of Nat King Cole with deeply personal reflections, while examining how a Black artist in 1950s America navigated fame, race, and belonging to reshape cultural space through elegance, dignity, and artistry.

What a way to close out Asian Heritage Month at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre. 🎧

Last Saturday, Kaminéh brought Head in the Clouds to the East Village Skybridge for a sold-out night of DJ sets rooted in South Asian sounds above the city. The energy was electric from start to finish.

Here are some of our favourite photos from the evening.

National Music Centre is excited to announce the appointment of current board member Steve Kane as the new Chair of our Board of Directors. A 35-year veteran of the Canadian music industry and Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame inductee, Kane previously served as the President of Warner Music Canada, Senior Vice President of Universal/Island/Def Jam Canada, and Senior Vice President of Polygram Records in Canada, and we are delighted to welcome his exceptional leadership and industry expertise to this role.

We're also thrilled to welcome new board members Robert Frances, Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer for the PEAK Financial Group of companies; Patti-Anne Tarlton, Vice Chair, Live Nation Concerts Canada at Live Nation Entertainment; and Ruth Spetz, former partner in BLG's law firm in the areas of tax, trusts, estates, charities, and not-for-profits; and congratulate Jennifer Buchanan on stepping into the role of Vice-Chair.

The experience and networks of our new chair and new board members make them exactly the kind of leaders we need for our next chapter.

We extend our deepest gratitude to outgoing Chair Rob Braide for 13 years of passionate and inspired leadership, and to Karen Prentice, who are both retiring from the board.
