🥳Happy birthday, Alberta!
On September 1, 1905 Alberta officially became a province and Senator Sir James Lougheed noted it in his diary, which we currently have on display in the Senator's Study here at Lougheed House. James Lougheed was a member of the Canadian Senate at the time and was living in the 14-year-old Lougheed House.

Next time you visit the museum, take a look at his open diary - James noted that it was fine weather on that day and that September 1 was also his birthday!

Today marks the final day for our 2026 Canada Summer Jobs and Young Canada Works students at Lougheed House!

🌈Cora Bailey, Visitor Experience Assistant, researched, wrote, and hosted The Q***r History of Pride Trivia Night, re-launching a beloved program at Lougheed House just in time for Calgary Pride, as well as headed our Canada Strong visitor experience survey, organized pricing in the gift shop, and much more!

💐 Shifa Nabi, Program Assistant, contributed to the delivering of all our summer programs, including the Father's Day Car Show, Beaulieu Flower & Artisan Market, embroidery workshops, and more! Shifa also researched and created fun and educational materials for Beaulieu Gardens so that visitors could explore and learn about this historic site at the same time.

Thank you so much, Cora and Shifa, for your hard work and wonderful contributions this summer! Thank you also to Canada Summer Jobs and Young Canada Works for funding these positions and creating opportunities for young people to gain work experience in their field of study.

Light metering is an important task that our Curator handles at least once a week. Whether it's cloudy or bright, morning or evening, it's important to get a full picture of the light exposure to the artifacts on display, and in rooms with especially sensitive artifacts you'll find the windows closed and the shutters shut tight.

Visit the museum at Lougheed House every Thursday-Sunday, 11:30 am to 3:00 pm to explore our exhibits, artifacts, and this stunning historic home.
