Decisions…decisions

"These bears represent the very essence of vulnerability and self acceptance," says Michelle Doucette.

"They serve as a powerful reminder that in the arms of understanding and acceptance, we can all find the strength to fully embrace and celebrate who we are."

Not everything we carry is visible… but it shapes us all the same.

There’s a gratitude I feel when I’m painting that runs deeper than the canvas.

I found painting during a time when my body wasn’t cooperating in ways I couldn’t explain. One of those invisible things.

POTS / Dysautonomia is real. At times, it can be debilitating.

I used to tell myself I had beat it… but the truth is, it lingers. I’ve just learned how to manage it. As many others do as well.

I’m sharing this because I know so many people carry things no one else can see. I’ve also had people reach out who struggle with POTS/Dysautonomia recently who simply feel alone and misunderstood…something I understand and have felt and still feel at times. And if this brings even a little awareness, or helps someone feel less alone; then it aligns with why I create… to connect, inspire, and give back.

This week, I’m especially grateful for creativity. It’s been my grounding place. My reset. My reminder to not take a single day for granted.

Sharing this is simply a gentle reminder to lead with curiosity over judgment when watching others.

Because, sometimes the quiet battles, the ones that not necessarily visible…are the ones shaping us the most.

And for me, painting is where I find a little peace within it all.

"Sometimes the most important messages aren’t loud. They sit quietly in the background, waiting for us to really see them," says Michele Doucette.

"So many opportunities show up in our lives and we hesitate. We overthink. But, waiting doesn’t make the fear disappear, it just makes the moment pass. Take the step. Say the words. Make the choice. Because honestly, If not now, then when?"

"Sometimes the most important messages aren’t loud. They sit quietly in the background, waiting for us to really see them. Just like this quote. At first glance, it’s easy to miss the words, but once you see them, you can’t unsee them. So many opportunities show up in our lives and we hesitate....

"This painting is happiness, plain and simple," says Michele Doucette. "The mountains remind me how easy it is to feel so alive and happy when you slow down, lookaround, laugh a little louder, and simply enjoy the moment and those around you."

I’ve been writing a lot lately…

The moments you’ll never regret are the ones you chose to step into.
Even if they were messy. Even if they didn’t go as planned.

Mistakes? Yes. We all make them.
But we learn. We grow. We make peace.

It’s the chances we didn’t take…
the words we didn’t say…
the love we didn’t show…

Those are the ones that linger

Today I had the privilege of spending time at my old high school. A special classroom with a group of diverse learners. And I’ll say this # without hesitation—working with these kids is incredibly rewarding.

I’ll admit, the first time I shared Fenn’s Giant Blue Secret in this type of setting, I felt a bit intimidated. I didn’t know what to expect. I was nervous. I wondered if I’d be able to connect, if I’d find the right words to articulate Fenn’s message in a way that would be understood. Those moments of doubt were real.

What I learned very quickly and beautifully; is that when you stay authentic to who you are, when you share from a place of honesty and heart, and when you leave room for everyone to engage in their own way, something special happens.

These students don’t need things simplified…they need them to be real. They show up with curiosity, openness, and a depth of understanding that reminds me why this work matters. Watching them connect to Fenn’s story, interpret it in ways uniquely their own, and express themselves so freely is incredibly inspiring.

Days like today are a reminder that creativity is a language everyone speaks…just in different dialects. And when we make space for that, connection can happen.

Sometimes I find myself wondering why I work so hard to make this school program happen.
The planning.
The travel.
The long days.
The hours spent scanning students unique artwork and creating mosaics long after the classroom session ends

And then there’s this moment.

A Grade 3 girl, proudly holding her artwork titled “The Power of Art.”
No big speech. No fanfare. Just a small, honest reminder that landed exactly where it needed to.

Moments like this take me right back to when Lindsay and I first brought Fenn’s Giant Blue Secret to life, when the story was written, the illustrations were finished, and we hoped… quietly… that it would matter.

It does.

What we created reaches further than we’ll ever fully see.
It starts conversations.
It builds confidence.
It helps kids feel seen, brave, and proud of who they are.

And it reminds me that art…when it connects, is powerful.

So when life feels heavy, when challenges creep in and self-doubt gets loud, I come back to moments like this. I remember that my art does matter. That creativity matters. That showing up, even when it’s hard, art matters.

I am grateful beyond words for these kids, their honesty, their courage, and the gentle reminders they give me every single time.

This is why I do the work. 💙
