Plein air painting is the practice of painting outdoors, directly on location, rather than from within a studio. The phrase comes from the French en plein air, meaning “in the open air.”

From some of his favourite Rocky Mountain hiking destinations to the expansive prairies, Mitchell Fenton captures the landscapes he experiences firsthand. Rather than working from a photograph, he paints directly from the scene, preserving the atmosphere, light, and feeling of each place.

At 8 x 10 inches, these intimate oil paintings offer a beautiful way to bring a piece of the landscape into your collection. Their scale creates endless possibilities for display, whether layered into a gallery wall, styled on a shelf, or adding a quiet moment of colour and calm to a space.
