Congratulations to Guy Little, whose work Tempest has been Highly Commended in the Places category of The Mono Awards 2026.

A striking study of scale, light and atmosphere, Tempest places a solitary structure beneath an immense, turbulent sky — a quiet human presence against something far greater.

A wonderful recognition for Guy and this beautiful black-and-white work.

Tempest is available through IRID Gallery.

You don’t need to understand photography to know when an image holds you.
Give it time.

Notice where your eye goes first. Follow the light. Look at the edges. Consider what has been left outside the frame — and what the photographer has chosen not to explain.

Then notice whether you’re still looking.

There is no test to pass and no correct response to have. Learning to collect photography begins with learning to trust your own attention.

If a photograph keeps bringing you back, pay attention to that.

JUST ARRIVED | JOHN WISEMAN

Some works deserve to be experienced beyond the screen.

Lilac Breasted Roller Bird by John Wiseman has just arrived at IRID Gallery. An award-winning work already held in collections around the world, the piece follows the extraordinary movement of the lilac-breasted roller through a sequence of flight.

Printed on Hahnemühle William Turner, a beautifully textured fine art paper, the surface gives the work an almost tactile quality while retaining the remarkable colour and detail of Wiseman’s photography.

For this edition, we’ve finished the work in the Dawson’s Frame — crisp white layers, a deep burgundy detail and fine silver accent. The framing becomes part of the work rather than simply surrounding it.

COLLECTED | MELBOURNE
We love seeing where the work ends up living.

The Teenager 2 by Guy Little has found its place with a Melbourne collector — and it looks completely at home in this entry.

Part of Guy’s Photographer’s Shadow series, the work brings together drawing and photography in a way that feels intricate, slightly surreal and deeply considered. It’s the kind of piece that keeps revealing more the longer you spend with it.

A limited edition of 100, now part of a new home and a new daily rhythm.

Congratulations to our collector on the acquisition.

Sometimes the photograph is only the beginning.

One of the things we loved most about Melbourne was watching Gianluca Carretta talk people through his work — where he was, what he noticed, what happened before the shutter was pressed, and why that particular moment stayed with him.

There’s something different about hearing the story directly from the person who made the work. You look again. You notice more. And suddenly, the photograph carries a little more with it.

This is the part of an artfair we love.

COLLECTED | MELBOURNE
Flow by Simon Ray is heading to a new home in Melbourne.

Seen from above, the braided channels feel almost abstract — part landscape, part pattern. It’s the kind of work that changes depending on how long you spend with it.

We’re so pleased to see this one collected.

COLLECTED | MELBOURNE
Another beautiful work heading to a new home in Melbourne.

Emerald Encounter by John Wiseman has found its collector — and this one is such a little gem. The colour, the light and that split second of the hummingbird hovering beside the flower make it a work you can keep coming back to.

We loved having this one on the wall, but even more, we love seeing it head home with someone who connected with it.

Congratulations to our new collector, and to John.

THE WEEKEND | GIANLUCA CARRETTA
Some photographs ask for attention. Others reward patience.

A Common Starling, suspended for a fraction of a second between the bare branches — wings open, colour catching the light before the moment disappears.

Gianluca Carretta has a remarkable ability to find stillness within the unpredictability of the natural world. Here, even the smallest subject holds the frame.

A quieter moment for the weekend.

A WEEKEND OF LOOKING
One of the pleasures of an art fair is watching people look.

The pause. The conversation. The pointing to something the other person might have missed.

Over the past few days, we’ve watched visitors move between photography, painting, works on paper and sculpture — sometimes knowing exactly what they’re searching for, sometimes discovering something entirely unexpected.

That, perhaps, is the best part.

There’s still time to wander, look closely, ask questions and find the work that makes you stop.

IRID Gallery at Affordable Art Fair Australia Melbourne stand A7.

Come and see us before the doors close.
