McLeod Innovations

McLeod Innovations As an artist I aim for my creations to be held to connect to the sense of touch through functionality.

My work is inspired by textures and colour from nature, and more recently my designs consider both environmental and human impacts. I am a part time Melbourne based artist who works mainly in timber & resin art. Trained as a boilermaker, I learnt early techniques for forging and machining of metals which allowed me to extend my creativity. I started creating pieces in metal early in my training and eventually have moved to having a creative focus with timbers.

Custom 50cm wall clock

Blackwood and resin to create a natural flow through the face. Framed with a steam bent Mountain Ash rim, finished in black to keep it clean and simple.
At 50cm, it sits comfortably on the wall, but with enough presence to stand out.

From old country table to a fresh rustic breakfast bar.

My customer asked me to recycle their original dining table into something more modern and better suited to their space. I kept the full length, narrowed the top, and rebuilt it into a rustic breakfast bar with steel U‑legs and a hidden underside drawer made from the original timber.
This project was a great reminder that solid timber pieces are often worth rethinking before you throw them out.

An antique drawer, reimagined as a jewellery table

My customer came to me with an antique drawer she loved and asked if I could turn it into something functional while still honouring its history. She wanted a jewellery table where every piece could be seen through glass and something she’d enjoy every day.
I built a custom table around the drawer, keeping its original character and layout intact. The new frame is clean, solid, and sized to suit modern use:
Height 72cm, Width 92cm, Depth 48cm
Old craftsmanship meets new design, and the result is a piece that highlights its elegance.

Inlay Bowl
Combining technology with traditional craft techniques, I started with my CNC router to cut the inlay, then turned the bowl from Mountain Ash. It’s 30cm across, with musk resin filling a branch style pattern around the rim. Really happy with how this piece came together.

1920’s Drafting desk restoration project.
This was an interesting project linked to 3 generations of the desk being passed down through my customer’s family. (It has traveled all the way from Texas)
I was able to carefully restore it whilst keeping its history.
