During the painting process I go from thinking what I am doing is “a great idea” to “what are you thinking”.

Most of the time I just keep going anyway and reminding myself that it’s only paint and I can always paint over it or start again.

You can see that I originally started with a silver leaf background but soon changed my mind (more than once).

Last year, I went to Japan with my Mother-In-Law and saw the beautiful Cherry Bloosoms.

As a result, I created this painting, although you can swipe across and see that I went through a lot of changes before I was happy with it.

I decided that it was just too busy and changed my mind with the background.

Happy Mother's Day to my Mother-In-Law from her favourite Daughter-In-Law.
(She only has one son, so I suppose I'll just have to take this title).

This body of work is rooted in my own family's convict history and the many women whose lives were shaped by transportation, survival and faith.

Through painting and textile techniques, I'm exploring history as something felt and jot just recorded.

Which stories do you think history has overlooked?

How to tell a story with a simple Red Thread.

I have been adding touches of red to my art works for years. I create landscapes that are more than just an image of what I see.

They tell stories that a wrapped up in the layers. Sometimes they are a reference to a convict past or the impact on colonialism. They also represent our impact on the land both good and bad. I am happy for the viewer to make their own mind up about the stories that the piece is telling them.

Snippets of few portrait paintings I have in the studio at the moment. The larger one has more of a textile feel about it as the blue spots I sewed on by hand.

This was because I wanted them raised a little so that they would cast a slight shadow when the sun is on it, adding a little more interest to the piece.

Come and see me in the Gallery tomorrow night. I will be opening the Gallery between 6-8pm. The space is having a pop up exhibition with all the teachers exhibiting works. This is a great way to see what the teachers themselves create and you may be tempted to join one of their classes as there is a class for everyone; from oil, watercolour to mixed media.

Open Tomorrow Night
Friday Sept 12th 6-8pm
Saturday 13th 11-2pm
Sunday 14th 11-1pm

These are the times that the Gallery is open and that I will be there. I am more delighted that you will get to see my work up close and I can tell you about the inspiration and the stories behind them.

Save this post for the opening times this weekend.

Hope to see you there.

Which is your favourite?
These are a series of small floral paintings that I have created, each with a secret waiting to be found. 🌸
These pieces are hand-painted with hidden words, gentle messages you’ll only see when you step closer.
They’ll be on show at the Affordable Art Fair Melbourne, where you can shop original floral art, discover impressionistic acrylics and oils, and find meaningful pieces for your home.
If you love small-scale art with big stories, or simply want to spend a weekend surrounded by beautiful paintings, Melbourne artists, and creative inspiration, come and say hello.

I like to incorporate women’s untold stories into my landscapes. Not an easy thing to do but I like to do it through using materials like:
Lettering
Lace
And stitching.

I use these,as these are the skills that women often had in the past (probably even if they didn’t like learning them). But they are skills that were taken for granted and completely undervalued in the past.

This painting is inspired by a painting that was original created in 1864 by Nicholas Chevalier of The Grampians, which as a child I spent lots of time with my father and brothers camping there.

As usual I have made my own charcoal to use in the picture, making charcoal even through it is fun is also reminiscent of a domestic duty - like cooking (of which I would to anything to avoid - well not anything- but you know what I mean)

When you are not tall enough to not get your feet in the photo.

Just ignore the mess of spilled paint on the floor. Maybe one day I will pull up the boards and make an abstract work from it.
