"If you saw Izanami, O'Leary's first solo museum presentation at the Frye earlier this year, Kamon is an essential follow-up."
Don't take it from us, The Stranger thinks you've got to make a stop at Frye collection artist Hanako O'Leary's current show at Gallery 4Culture:

Weaving together Shinto mythology and contemporary feminist ideologies, local artist Hanako O’Leary’s origami works in Kamon create a unique visual vocabulary embedded with stories from her recent travels to Japan’s Setonaikai Islands and her childhood summers by the Seto Inland Sea. If you sa...

We are thrilled to announce Frye x Design, a new annual poster series that invites local designers to create work inspired by the museum. The inaugural poster is designed by Jayme Yen who used typographic mapping to recreate the iconic Frye Salon via text! Jayme is the co-organizer of the Seattle Art Book Fair and has taught publication design and information visualization at the UW School of Art + Art History + Design. The poster is on view in the Frye courtyard—and a limited edition print run is now available at the Frye Art Museum Store!

Come for the juxtapositions, stay for the resonances in "Twilight Child: Antonia Kuo and Martin Wong". This show brings together the work of the two q***r, diasporic Chinese artists born more than forty years apart.
Generous support from 4Culture made this exceptional exhibition possible.

This series highlights working artists currently on staff at the Frye Art Museum. The Frye has a wealth of talented Seattle-based artists working under its roof in many different capacities, each with their own dedicated arts practice outside of their work at the museum. "Throughout After/Images, Syjuco challenges viewers to contemplate how we might disrupt harmful narratives instead of accepting “historical record” as fact."
We're thrilled that "Stephanie Syjuco: After/Images" was included in Nia-Amina Minor's Washington Cliff Notes for Variable West! The piece also highlights Tacoma Art Museum's "[re]Frame: Haub Family Collection of Western American Art" series, which includes "Finding Home: The Chinese American West" curated by Frye trustee Lele Barnett!

Last week we hosted our very first Salon Supper, a fundraising celebration of artists and chef's dinner gorgeously presented by Grayson Corrales of MariPili Tapas Bar and our own MariPili at Café Frieda. We are ✨sparkling✨with gratitude for the support guests showed for the Frye's groundbreaking exhibitions, acquisition of local artists’ work, and risk-taking public programs and performances. We're cooking up another Salon series event this fall; be sure to sign up for our newsletter to stay informed. Better yet, become a member and get first crack at tickets!
A big thank you to our planning committee Rafael Soldi, Jennifer Potter, Lele Barnett, and Brandon Vaughan
