SAM’s Teen Arts Group (TAG) is now accepting youth art submissions for their upcoming exhibition, “[REDACTED]!” This is an exhibition for unique self-expression that defies expectations and challenges censorship. Have something the world isn’t ready to hear? Now is the time to channel it through art.

Submissions will be accepted through April 13. Selected artworks will be on display in our Seattle Asian Art Museum's Community Gallery from May 27 to September 17.

🌊 TAG takes "making waves" to a new level!

This week the Teen Arts Group (TAG) had a chance to explore SAM's new special exhibition "Hokusai: Inspiration and Influence"! Ramzy Lakos, Educator for Digital Learning, gave the team a behind-the-scenes look at the Make Your Own Woodblock Print digital interactive and encouraged the group to hold woodblocks of the iconic Great Wave. TAG members were eagerly sketching and gathering inspiration from the show; "why" you might ask? Because the group will be creating their very own woodblocks next week!

Stay tuned for a fun and thought-provoking addition to 's new TAG Talks series as one of our TAG members reflects on their visit to the exhibition and their experience crafting a one-of-a-kind woodblock print!

In her memoir "Just Kids", Patti Smith explores the naivete of feeling as if you know everything, but truly not knowing anything at all. To be a part of an inseparable connection with another human through the lens of art and the love that comes with it. While Smith explored youth through becoming immersed within the New York City art scene, you have your own unique experience that we want to see through your art. The Teen Arts Group at the Seattle Art Museum invites you to vulnerably reflect on what being a kid means to you– with all its vivid emotions of beauty, love, pain, and hope. We seek submissions that intimately express your experience growing up and where you want to go in this life. What moments in life have shaped you? What do you so intensely yearn for?

We are accepting artworks done on canvas and paper from artists between the ages of thirteen and twenty within the greater Seattle area. The exhibition will be on view from May 25th to September 4th at the Seattle Asian Art Museum, with more details for art drop-off to come. The first few people who submit and those whose art we choose to display will receive a fifteen-dollar BLICK gift card. We look forward to seeing everyone's artwork! Submissions are due May 8th.

Apply by using the QR code or by clicking “Call for art” on the link tree in our biography!
