Appointed to Active Medical Staff
Welcome to Dr. Marian Petrides who joined the staff of the Wayne County rural Comprehensive Health Program in September. Dr. Petrides graduated from Harvard University (Radcliff College) and received her Medical Degree from Dartmouth Medical School. She came to WCRCHP as a member of the National Health Service Corps. Dr. Petrides resides in Sodus, with her faithful, friendly, fun-loving terrier, Bumkin. (Myers Community Hospital "Heartbeat" October-November 1976)

Fifty Years Ago at Genesee Hospital..
Physicians Associates Program Accredited in Western NY
The Genesee Hospital has the only accredited Physician Associate Program in Western New York. The program, developed following two years of planning, utilizes registered nurses who undergo a specific two-year broad-based curriculum characterized by in-depth training in primary care with emphasis in medicine. They function in a versatile manner, working independently but in close association with a team physician in hospital services as well as in ambulatory settings. They are certified by the New York State Department of Education. Physician Associates are qualified to diagnose, treat, educate, manage, and follow up sick patients as well as perform critical procedures under a doctor's supervision. In time, Dr. Ureles and Dr. Finigan, who direct the Program, hope to train their students for special service in the Emergency Department as well as for urgently needed service in small hospitals throughout Western New York. Fifty Years Ago at RGH..
Thomas W. Boyden has joined the RGH staff as director of Development, to strengthen ongoing fund development, including the current CATT Scanner Challenge program. Boyden, a Burlington, Vermont native, has a B.A. degree from the University of Vermont, and a master's degree in Business Administration from Western Michigan University. He has hospital experience in the development field from Faulkner Hospital in Boston, and most recently was Development director at the Rochester Museum & Science Center. Fifty Years Ago at St. Mary's Hospital..
The new assistant director of Hospital and Community Relations is Kathleen Neary. The responsibilities of this position require a knowledge of photography, writing, editing and all around communication skills. A high degree of interpersonal contact is also required. Kathleen researches and develops articles for the West Side Story. designs graphic displays, and works on video and slide presentations. Kathleen is also the post advisor for the Medical Explorer Scouts here at St. Mary's, and is an active member of the social committee. Kathleen has an associate's degree in audiovisual technology from Monroe Community College where she had been employed as a technician in the Nursing Department. She has received her bachelor's degree in media communications through Empire State College and has done graduate work in communications at Clarion State College in Pennsylvania. Much of Kathleen's spare time is taken up by making improvements on her home which she purchased as an investment and shares with her dog, Chelsea. (The West Side Story, September 1976)

Fifty Years Ago at Myers Community Hospital..
Physician's Associate Joins Dr. Hoople's Office
David Mongillo, P.A., has joined Dr. Hoople's office in Wolcott. Mr. Mongillo has served in the Navy for four years as a Medical Corpsman. He then received more formal training at S.U.N.Y. at Stoney brook, where he received a B.S. in Health Science and a Primary Care Certificate as a Physician's Associate. Among many duties, the physician's associate elicits detailed patient histories, performs physical examinations, requests or carries out laboratory, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures, collects patient data, prepares narrative case summaries, and instructs and counsels patients in health maintenance procedures. The physician's associate may also apply and remove casts, suture wounds, change dressings, monitor the progress of patients, and provide follow up care. The physician's associate is able to render emergency care. Mr. Mongillo's wife, Mary Ann, has joined the Nursing Staff at M.C.H. We welcome them both to Northern Wayne County. Fifty Years Ago at The Genesee Hospital..
Old items find new life thanks to the Medical Auxiliary's efforts. Every Friday morning in the hospital's old cafeteria the Medical Auxiliary holds a Recycle Sale, under the leadership of Mrs. John Schultz. Treasures sold include generous donations from our friends in the community. Volunteers gladly pick up donated items. Since the first sale in the Spring of 1975, the Medical Auxiliary has raised over $25,000 which they have used towards the purchase of new equipment for the hospital. Fifty Years Ago at RGH...
A New Baby Sister!
Jeff, Colleen and Todd Stout came to RGH one rainy September Monday to visit two very important people. One was their Mom, Sharon Stout; the other their just born baby sister, Heather, who weighed in September 25 at six pounds, 11 ounces. The children's grandmother, Emaleo Stiles, and mother took them down to the nursery, where they could see their sister (Colleen was happiest about that!) through the nursery window. they approved. Mrs. Stout is an RGH Labor & Delivery nurse. Dad, Gary, missed the visit-he was at work. (RGH Tempo, September/October 1976)

Fifty Years Ago at St. Mary's Hospital..
This year's Medical Staff picnic to welcome the new house staff was held at the Party House on July 22. Games included Bocce Ball, Golf and Softball. Dozens of prizes were awarded. (The West Side Story, September 1976)
